Default Great OC experience at a gun shop today!

I had a couple hours to kill today after school before picking up my kids from school, so I decided to check out Advanced Arms, which I've been meaning to since moving up this way. It turns out that he's closed from today until the 18th for restocking, etc. So, I went to another fairly local gun shop that I hadn't visited yet instead.

As soon as I walk in, the owner (I presume) asked me if I was getting ready to go to the range or something, motioning to my gun on my hip. The way he said it, I thought to myself, here we go... I told him that I wasn't on my way to the range or back from it, that I generally carry openly. It turns out I misjudged his intentions completely! He was genuinely interested in open carry. He asked me all kinds of questions about where I open carry at and if I get negative reactions, positive reactions, any police encounters, etc. etc. I told him the applicable laws (of which he knew much of it already) and my experiences open carrying (well, my non-encounters, for the most part).

He was very intrigued and said that he was thinking about OCing as well. I didn't have a flier handy, so I wrote down the forum address and my username for him. He said he'll try to check it out... but he doesn't use computers. He has his kids turn it on for him! I'll probably stop by early next week with a flier for him.

Nothing exciting, but I figured I'd share, since this was my first real positive encounter. I don't usually have any encounters - I must be doing something wrong!

    Nice encounter!

If you are going to drop off a flyer (or 30!) you might want to consider dropping off some copies of the MPOETC document as well. Seeing the information LEAs are using to update their forces can be powerful stuff.

I'm going to guess that you probably didn't talk to the owner (Chris). He's a good friend of Pa. Patriot, and well aware of the legality of OC. There have also been flyers out for customers in the past.

Perhaps, but there is nothing wrong with asking questions and listening during a friendly chat either way.

With all due respect, I believe Chris is AA, OP said he went to another store.

Advanced is an A+ shop in my opinion.
