Default Any damage to a spring leaving a HD 870 loaded?

Or do pistol mag rules apply? Can I leave my 870 with 5 shells for long periods or no?

    Thanks guys

I've kept mine loaded for the past 2 years with no problems. I keep the chamber empty and down-load the tube by one. I have 00 buck in the tube and leave one spot open in case I want to throw a slug in for my first shot. I might have to shoot through a door or something (you never know!)

You should have no problem leaving it loaded.

springs do not weaken from being compressed as long as they are not compressed past their elastic limit.

i doubt the 870's spring is compressed past the elastic limit by loading it...if so, that would be a poor design--and 870's seem to generally be about the opposite of a poor design--but i guess ya never know.

(btw, this is true for pistol mags as well...though i could more easily imagine some pistol manufacturers designing mags that do compress the spring past its elastic limit when loaded in the quest to market the gun as super high capacity.)

another of which (that i forgot to mention) is that cycling springs does weaken them. so, if the alternative to leaving it loaded is to unload and load it daily, you are almost certainly better off just leaving it loaded.

That's arguable. Theoretically again they shouldn't as long as long as they are not exposed to their elastic limit.

Thats not arguable; service life of a spring is measured in compression cycles, not time under compression.

if you happen to leave your shotgun loaded with plastic shells i have noticed if you leave them in too long you will notice the shells become deformed on the front leaving flat spots....nothing as far as spring issues
