LTCF
I do not know if this has been covered before but I will ask it any way.
Why is the permit called a LTCF and not a CWP ?
You do not need a license to carry a firearm in Pa in the open only to conceal it.
They need to change the name of the license to make more sense. The truth shall set you free.

Re: LTCF
Your statement is incorrect, as Philly is an exception written into the law. In Philly, a license is required to carry, be it open or concealed. It's my understanding that PA's license is called an LTC because of this exception.

Re: LTCF
It should never have been either. This was the 1st attempts to remove our rights, by turning a right into a license issue. A license to carry, concealed or not, infringes greatly

Re: LTCF
Mine states "Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms".
It's incorrect but what can we do?
Anyone wanna throw down on a lawsuit? I'm game.
EDIT:
Though, since most don't know about handguns or carrying and least of all. open carry. I can't help but think attention to it would be negative..."Because I'm an American." - MtnJack

Re: LTCF
Additional question:
Was it ever called a Concealed Carry Permit/License...
The reason I ask, is because I often hear of police telling OC folk "You shouldn't carry openly, it's called a CONCEALED carry permit for a reason."
My guess is that these particular police officers simply don't know their ass from a hole in a donut.
Just wonderin'...I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: LTCF
I would think that part of the naming comes from the fact that it covers FIREARMS only and not weapons in general. I do not belive that knives for example are covered under this license.
I do agree with the concern that it seems that we are issuing licenses for a right that our Commonwealth of PA constitution already guarantees.

Thanks for the answer, I did not think about Philly when I wrote this

Re: LTCF
All I know is this past week I have shared some emails with the Fayette County Sherrif's office inquiring about applying for the LTCF. My original email I had "License To Carry Firearms" in the subject but when the lady replied she changed it to "Concealed Carry Permit". So they must have used to call it that I would think for her to change the title.

Re: LTCF
I absolutely do not understand that. It says right on the document "License To Carry Firearms". That is its name, so what is so hard about calling it by the correct name? Especially for the sheriff's dept. Or even the abbreviation LTCF is fine, but not gun permit or carry permit!
By the way, I have an old LTCF of my dad's that was issued in 1984 and it was called "License To Carry Firearms" then.
It also has spaces for MAKE & MODEL OF WEAPON, CALIBER and SERIAL NO., all of which are listed as VARIOUS.Last edited by HiredGoon; November 1st, 2007 at 08:11 PM. Reason: Add more info.
