10mm Auto
I was looking at different ammunition today and 10mm caught my eye. I've never fired it before and was wondering about everyones opinions and/or personal usage experiences.
Thanks,
Vin.

Re: 10mm Auto
It is a good round IMHO. It is large with a large pistol primer used. It is used in mostly full sized pistols with many of them 1911s. Glock used to make a 10mm that I think was the model 20 but I won't swear to that. The 10mm recoil concerned some so mid-range loads became available. S&W saw an opportunity and developed a shorter version with a small pistol primer case and got just about the same performance of the mid-range 10mm calling it the 40 S&W. If you reload, it provides good performance. I have a 1911 in 10mm that I have had for maybe 20 years. It can be loaded down for target loads or loaded up if you want the power. It shows good accuracy potential but brass is much harder to come by than 40 S&W (which will not work in a 10mm BTW). I hope this helps.

Re: 10mm Auto
.40 was invented because Police department couldn't handled the 10mm. I've never owned or shot a 10mm, but I'm planning on buying a G20 someday. G20's are probably the most common and affordable 10mm pistols.
Ammo is kind of rare and expensive. It's a gun I wouldn't really use as a range toy. Maybe only a mag or two through the gun each range visit.

Re: 10mm Auto
i had a colt delta elite in 10mm. fun to shoot but it rattled all kinds of shit loose on the gun. ammo is expensive for it. if i had kept it i probably would have gotten into reloading.

Re: 10mm Auto
balistically the 10mm is the "ultmate round" a g20c is towards the top of my list (competition/ranger gun, etc)

Re: 10mm Auto
Glock 20 and 29 (compact) are still in production, in regular and compensated versions. I have a Glock 20, and it's a soft shooting, accurate 10mm. If I load it with DoubleTap ammo, I can have 16 180gr Gold Dots at 1300 fps at my disposal

Had a S&W 1006 back in the early 90's and it was a FANTASTIC weapon. Full size but not overly heavy and shot very nice.

Re: 10mm Auto
Like the 44 mag the 10mm is a excellent hunting round its ballistic in probably too much for man, though a good Man stopper there is a good chance that it will tear through a man. It probably would leave more energy in a Bear or Moose just like a 44mag but not quite as powerful. As stated it is a powerful handgun and come in various type guns from the rare revolver to the Glock, 1911 Colt Delta and various 1911 clones among others types.

Re: 10mm Auto
I have a few 10mm's and I love the round but as others said getting rounds takes some looking but they are readily available on the internet. I have a Kimber Eclipse, Glock G-20, Smith and Wesson 610 and a Bond Arms in 10mm and each one is very reliable but the Bond is kinda impractical. And the Smith will shoot .40 S&W too. Worth looking into in my opinion unless you like to shoot cheaply, then you might want to consider other options.
