SPRINGFIELD ARMORY XD 40 FOR DUTY

I work armed executive security. I just bought Springfield Armory XD in 40. I love this gun and it is comfortable and I shoot it well. Need to ask your alls opnion as to which defensive ammo you all recommend. I presently have 165 Grn Speer Gold dot.

Any Ideas? Ballistics stats etc somewhere on internet you can point me to?

All of todays defensive ammo from the big name companies have good ballistics, the more important question is, will your weapon function properly with the type of ammo used. Speer, Federal,Hornady,Winchester ect ect ect all have good offerings in the defensive carry ammo arena. I wouldn't worry about the brand of round you carry, it where you put them when nessesary that counts. Good Luck!!

I personally use the Speer GDHP 165gr now but prior to that I was using the Winchester PDX-1 180 gr I can also recommend Winchester Ranger and Federal HST in whatever grain you choose.

Excellent choice, one of the better polymer semis to come out of that factory, it will serve you well and as stated is an excellent duty weapon Imho. Good luck!

Not accurate. Brand makes a difference. Go look up the magtech hollowpoints and tell me you would trust your life to that round. I'd rather winchester FMJ over magtech JHP.

My point exactly, if it functions well in your weapon and your comfortable with the quality , a FMJ can end the fight just as well as the newest baddest hollowpoint with extreme terminal ballistics, that cost 50.00 for a box of 20. Now I'm not saying that I would prefer to carry a FMJ over a good hollow point, my point was not to get wrapped up in having to have the "magic bullet" if you will. 2 cents

I'm partial to the Hornaday XTP or CD ammo . . . but that's just my preference, my XD's seemed to be very reliable with them

I was finally able to get some shooting in with different Hollow points, with some testing. Shot: from a scale of 1 to 10.

Winchester 180 grn Pdx 8
Winchester 155 grn silver tip 6

Rem 165 grn Golden Sabre 6

Speer 180
Speer 165 Grn Gold Dot 8

Federal 165 grn Hst 10
Federal 180 grn hydra shock 6

Federal 135 grn EFMJ 5

I selected the Federal 165 grn HST for carry.

Good choice in duty ammo 165 jhp Gold dots are good stuff.

I'm a little partcal to the 135 jhp and 155 jhp 40 cal. But 165 jhp Gold dots will work good combination.
