Got the bug again
This time it’s for a revolver. I am thinking about the Ruger Black hawk in 44 or 45LC, with a 4.5 or 5.5 inch Barrel. The black hawk seems to be the best bang for your buck. I reload all my own Ammo and would be shooting Mid-range cast loads, what do you guys think of the Black hawk. I am not looking for a Hunting or comp gun, just another fun gun for the range.

Re: Got the bug again
Tell you the truth its hard to beat a Ruger Black hawk in either caliber. If it was me I'd go Super Black hawk in 44 mag because of it dual capability 44 spl and 44 mag. Of course you can reload 45LC that way light loads and heavy. My point is that 44mag is more powerful and versatile light/heavy loads in either variance.
I like the way BH absorb the big calibers recoil rolling the gun up high but it does not hurt the wrist as much. N frames and even the Red Hawks can after 25-50 hot round make me say No mas. With the BH 44mag its all day action.

Re: Got the bug again
Thanks Neko, all the post I have read, you don’t see much bad about the BH, I am getting too old for the hand cannons, The light 44 or 45 LC will be about it for me. Just trying to narrow it down between those two.

Having a 1911 and several S&W, and USFA revolvers chambered for 45ACP, and a couple Ruger and Uberti revolvers with 45 Colt and 45ACP cylinders, I'd suggest that if you have a 1911, consider the Blackhawk or Vaquero in 45 Colt / 45ACP. "Two guns in one."

Re: Got the bug again
Come to the pmsc/pafoa group shoot on the 12th and I'll let you shoot my blackhawk in 45 colt 5.5". Light loads, regular loads, or "ruger only" loads. You can see if you like it.
I'm considering buying another with a 4 5/8" barrel just to have a pair.
You can also try out my new model vaquero if you'd like.

Re: Got the bug again
Thanks for the offer bad weekend though, TEA party the 11th, and gunshow in Greensburg on the 12th,. I have pretty much made up my mind on the Black hawk, still kicking around which caliber. I’ve had a Dan Wesson 357 for years, and a S&W 38. Its just time to one up the 357. I shoot a lot of 9MM , 40 S&W and 45 ACP. But some times it’s fun to go back to the revolvers

Re: Got the bug again
Great choice going with the Ruger. I have a Super Blackhawk in .44 mag and love it. The only issue I had was that I loved the look of the wood grip on it and initially only shot it with that. I could only take so many rounds with it at a time. Since then I set it up with a nice set of Hogue molded soft rubber grips and now it's a dream to shoot. It's comparable to my Smith .357 revolver and even my .38. Great choice and good shooting!
