    Default M&P 9mm Question

Ok, a question was brought up to me by a fellow worker that we did not know the answer to so,,,,,,, I have a M&P full size 9mm can I fire 9mm+p out of this gun? I went on the S&W web site and it does not say anything. I know that there is no reason for +p with all the great self defense ammo out but, it was a question we could not answer so, Please help. Thanks in advance Joe

Yes, the M&P9 can shoot +p rounds. It's not recommended to shoot 500 rounds of +p continuously at the range, but to carry +p for self-defense situation, and fire small to moderate quantities at range for testing is OK.

If you do fire a lot of +p, you have to keep an eye on your recoil spring, and make sure the slide isn't hammering the frame. If it is, you might need to replace the springs with stiffer springs.

I believe the M&P was designed to shoot +P ammo. I am gonna be testing some +P+ ammo in it this weekend and intend to carry it.

I own a M&P9c as well and was also told the same thing by Smith and Wesson.

Not totally true. You may not need the extra umph, but why not have it? I could understand this if you were carrying .45acp, or 10mm, but if I'm carrying 9mm (and I usually am) I wanna push the stats on my round as far as I reasonably can. There is lots of good +p 9mm self defense ammo out there. Go get some. Try it out in your gun, make sure it functions properly. Then carry it. Just don't shoot 500 rounds of it on one range trip, like CR said above.

    Good catch on this comment.

There is no reason not to use +P ammo unless you are using a 147gr bullet and there doesnt seem to be a +P load.
