    Default Misfire/Light Strike Question

Just got back from the range where I shot 190 rounds of various ammo (Corbon, CCI BLazer, Winchester & Hornady) out of my Glock 29 (10mm).
I had 5 light strike misfires using the following ammo:

    2 - CCI Blazer 200gr TMJ
    2 - Hornady 185gr XTP HP
    1 - Winchester 175gr STHP

Some background: Firearm & magazines are kept clean and are disassembled and cleaned after every range trip. Obviously I know its not the ammo. Magazines are in excellent condition, Firing pin and all other internals appear to be in excellent condition. Firearm is 8 years old with about 1000 rounds fired out of it.

My question is what do you think is the cause of the misfires?

Could be your recoil spring. Usually light off center primer strikes in Glocks happen when the gun is trying to fire out of battery. Try this: Point the gun at the ceiling, put some pressure on the trigger and just barely pull down on the slide and let go. If it doesn't close up tight you need a new or heavier recoil spring. I had this happen on my G17 when I went to a lighter spring.

just to double check here, do this with an unloaded gun, right?

I'd change all the springs in the gun. Mag springs too.

    Report back what happens.

What do you think? I assume people aren't retarded but I guess I really shouldn't and should have mentioned unloaded. You are wise to ask the stupid question you may have saved somebody a hole in their ceiling. I take no responsibility for stupid people. Thanks.

How about we start by detail stripping the slide and cleaning the firing pin and the firing pin channel with rubbing alcohol. The probability of the springs being bad after 1000 rounds is not likely but the firing pin having some oil in the channel collecting lint, dirt and carbon is very possible especially with Glocks.

Feel free to pm me if you need more help.

OP said pistol was clean and that "Firing pin and all other internals appear to be in excellent condition."

I interpreted this to mean he had detail stripped it (but it was simply an assumption of course)... If you haven't already, I would definitely pull the whole slide apart and replace the springs, just as a safe and cheap bet...

I'm curious to see if Yoder's recoil spring suggestion is on the money. Can you imagine a 10mm round being touched off while out of battery! Yikes.

    Regards,

    Bones

The condition is not what I was referring to but the cleanliness of the pin channel. If you need any spring within 1000 rounds to be replaced you should see your local gunsmith.

It is an 8 year old gun. It's too cheap to not do it.

I figured maybe the gun was used and had more the 1k rounds through it. Or maybe the OP had switched out springs. Also the check I recommended takes about 5 seconds and you don't even need to disassemble the gun so why not check it? Firing out of battery with a 10mm might cost you some fingers so why not check it? This is common with Glocks. If the primer strikes are off center you can bet money the gun is not locking up all the way when the trigger is pulled. If they are just light and in the center it's probably a firing pin/spring/cleaning issue.
