    Default New rifle with scope

Are the scopes, on new rifles that come equipped with a 3-9x40, any good? I think most are Bushnell.

Most of the "package" guns that i have seen such as the remington 710 come with a bushnell sportsman scope or something equivalant. IMO i would take off most of those scopes and put them on a 22lr or a low recoil rifle and if you are looking for a low cost but quality replacement for under $150 bucks you could replace it with something like a bushnell trophy, nikon prostaff, weaver 40/44, or even the redfield revolution scopes. All of these scopes have multi coated optics and handle recoil well and have pretty good light transmisson. I personally have a weaver 40/44 scope in a 6.5x20 on a new TC Venture Predator in a 223 and found it used for $150 and it is one of the best lower dollar scopes i have ever owned.

Those 'package' scopes will work but remember, you can't shoot what you can't see. I'd upgrade just as soon as I could.

The answer to that question largely depends on what you plan to do with it. If you are target shooting, it should be fine. If you are hunting, you may want to make sure it's water proof, shock proof and fog proof. The distance you plan on shooting is also a factor in the possible need to upgrade.
