Ruger LCP owners...
...do you keep a round in the chamber? The manual says not to, but it seems not to help SD without a round in the chamber. Does this have a free floating firing pin that could cause it to go off if dropped?

Re: Ruger LCP owners...
I don't keep a round in the chamber for the LCP but I also do not use it as my primary carry. I'll have it on sometimes as a secondary but nothing in the chamber.

There's a recall on LCPs.

Re: Ruger LCP owners...
Just checked and mine has the post fix serial number. But thanks for the heads up! I heard there was a problem with them.

Re: Ruger LCP owners...
The original ones would discharge if dropped on a hard surface. Ruger issued a recall and fixed the problem. New ones don't have that problem. Ruger is probably just playing it safe telling people not to load it +1. Go ahead and load it up you'll be okay so long as you follow proper gun safety rules.

Re: Ruger LCP owners...
Jeff cooper once remarked that an unloaded gun is a useless gun, yes when i carry mine it is loaded , meaning a round is loaded into the chamber.
Yes you are right , it has a floating hammer attached to a spring just like a Keltec p11, Ruger's fix is to put on a heavier spring.
I didn't send mine in because i like the trigger pull just the way it is.
I carry mine in a desantis nemesis pocket holster.as a second gun, i would never carry it as a primary gun.

Re: Ruger LCP owners...
If you go on the elsie pea forums there are many threads about them being dropped, and zero are about it going off. Even some pretty bad type of falls that you'd cringe if any gun hit the ground at that force.
That being said, I just throw mine in a pocket as it is. So none in the chamber usually.

Re: Ruger LCP owners...
I carry +1. If I'm going to use it I plan on pulling it out of my pocket as fast as I can and shooting the guy not worrying bout trying to rack the little slide to load a round. Not to mention why leave yourself -1 round in a gun fight.

I carry 6+1. There's no point to have a self defense weapon that does not have one in the chamber...
