Taurus 605 or Redhawk .44
I a want to get a revolver. I currently have a .22 revolver but want something larger I can carry mainly when hiking up state at our cabin. I have been wanting a taurus 605 in .357 for a small compact easy to carry gun. However a guy I work with has offered me a Ruger Redhawk 5.5" .44mag for $350-$400. I don't have the money for both so which one should I get?

If you get the Taurus don't pay too much for it. I can't bring myself to buy one, even though the prices are good. I just worry about all the quality control issues. Nothing wrong with the Ruger, but would be a little tough to conceal and it's single action.
If it were me I'd look for a S&W Model 60 with a 3 inch barrel.Selling off a a sizeable Spyderco collection here

model 60 or the sp101 are best options. carrying a Redhawk on a hike might be alot of labor.
THINK ABOUT IT TWICE, Cause you're slow with your hands

Redhawk is double action.
Blackhawk is single.

Odd comparison there, but if it were me, I would take the Redhawk a million times over the 605. The Redhawk is "The" 44 Magnum revolver. That is a nice price too and the 5.5" ones are a bit tougher to come by.

Re: Taurus 605 or Redhawk .44
The RedHawk is a durable, reliable and accurate hand cannon, hard to beat. Comfort wise I like the Red Hawk over the non modified 629 or N frame Smiths.
Definitely I'd choose the RH over the Taurus though Taurus make some nice looking Guns. Ruger's reputation for building Tanks proceed it.
As for carry a RH on long hikes I've seen RH with shoulder slings, where there is a will there is a way. Carrying one shoulder holstered I don't think it would bother me as long as I didn't have to run a great distance.Last edited by Neko456; August 24th, 2010 at 06:59 PM.

I do know it is an odd comparison. I wanted the 605 but the RH at a decent price opens up the option of deer hunting with it also. I think I will take a look and feel of both and then decide.
