What exactly does CCW cover?
Does the PA CCW cover all sorts of guns or just pistols? also, does it permit you to carry more than one gun on your person concealed? and on a related, but not firearm note, does it cover martial arts weapons as well?

Re: What exactly does CCW cover?
The LTCF covers the following:
1. Revolvers or pistols with barrels less than 15".
2. Rifles with barrels less than 16"**
3. Shotguns with barrels less than 18"**
4. Rifles and shotguns with an overall length less than 26"**
** National Firearm Act weapons that require a NFA tax stamp to own or build.
Regular rifles and shotguns are not covered with your LTCF. It does NOT cover any knives, nunchucks, swords, or whatever.
You can carry as many firearms as you have the strength to bear.Last edited by knight0334; October 27th, 2007 at 03:57 PM.

Re: What exactly does CCW cover?
I know there are others that can be more specific, but I'll give you what I (think I) know:
It covers any weapon meeting PA's legal definition of a firearm. This is not limited to pistols, but one determining factor is barrel length. I don't know the specific limit.
If your weapons meet that legal definition, you can carry as many of them and as much ammunition as you are physically able to.
I don't believe this license covers any other weapons, since in PA it's specifically called a "License to Carry Firearms". I am interested in the legalities of other weapons (batons, etc.), but I think anything like that must be visible, not concealed.
I'm sure others will chime in and correct me if I've mis-stated anything.Get your "Guns Save Lives" stickers today! PM for more info.

Re: What exactly does CCW cover?
Yup, and the definition of "firearm" per the UFA is essentially handguns, sbr's and sbs's.
"Firearm." Any pistol or revolver with a barrel length less
than 15 inches, any shotgun with a barrel length less than 18
inches or any rifle with a barrel length less than 16 inches, or
any pistol, revolver, rifle or shotgun with an overall length of
less than 26 inches. The barrel length of a firearm shall be
determined by measuring from the muzzle of the barrel to the
face of the closed action, bolt or cylinder, whichever is
applicable.

Re: What exactly does CCW cover?
This is the only section that deals with knives or other "weapons"
§ 908. Prohibited offensive weapons.
(a) Offense defined.--A person commits a misdemeanor of the
first degree if, except as authorized by law, he makes repairs,
sells, or otherwise deals in, uses, or possesses any offensive
weapon.
(b) Exceptions.--
(1) It is a defense under this section for the defendant
to prove by a preponderance of evidence that he possessed or
dealt with the weapon solely as a curio or in a dramatic
performance, or that, with the exception of a bomb, grenade
or incendiary device, he complied with the National Firearms
Act (26 U.S.C. § 5801 et seq.), or that he possessed it
briefly in consequence of having found it or taken it from an
aggressor, or under circumstances similarly negativing any
intent or likelihood that the weapon would be used
unlawfully.
(2) This section does not apply to police forensic
firearms experts or police forensic firearms laboratories.
Also exempt from this section are forensic firearms experts
or forensic firearms laboratories operating in the ordinary
course of business and engaged in lawful operation who notify
in writing, on an annual basis, the chief or head of any
police force or police department of a city, and, elsewhere,
the sheriff of a county in which they are located, of the
possession, type and use of offensive weapons.
(3) This section shall not apply to any person who
makes, repairs, sells or otherwise deals in, uses or
possesses any firearm for purposes not prohibited by the laws
of this Commonwealth.
(c) Definitions.--As used in this section, the following
words and phrases shall have the meanings given to them in this
subsection:
"Firearm." Any weapon which is designed to or may readily be
converted to expel any projectile by the action of an explosive
or the frame or receiver of any such weapon.
"Offensive weapons." Any bomb, grenade, machine gun, sawed-
off shotgun with a barrel less than 18 inches, firearm specially
made or specially adapted for concealment or silent discharge,
any blackjack, sandbag, metal knuckles, dagger, knife, razor or
cutting instrument, the blade of which is exposed in an
automatic way by switch, push-button, spring mechanism, or
otherwise, any stun gun, stun baton, taser or other electronic
or electric weapon or other implement for the infliction of
serious bodily injury which serves no common lawful purpose.
(d) Exemptions.--The use and possession of blackjacks by the
following persons in the course of their duties are exempt from
this section:
(1) Police officers, as defined by and who meet the
requirements of the act of June 18, 1974 (P.L.359, No.120),
referred to as the Municipal Police Education and Training
Law.
(2) Police officers of first class cities who have
successfully completed training which is substantially
equivalent to the program under the Municipal Police
Education and Training Law.
(3) Pennsylvania State Police officers.
(4) Sheriffs and deputy sheriffs of the various counties
who have satisfactorily met the requirements of the Municipal
Police Education and Training Law.
(5) Police officers employed by the Commonwealth who
have satisfactorily met the requirements of the Municipal
Police Education and Training Law.
(6) Deputy sheriffs with adequate training as determined
by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.
(7) Liquor Control Board agents who have satisfactorily
met the requirements of the Municipal Police Education and
Training Law.
(Dec. 20, 1983, P.L.291, No.78, eff. imd.; July 6, 1984,
P.L.647, No.134, eff. 90 days; July 11, 1985, P.L.235, No.58,
eff. 60 days; Oct. 4, 1994, P.L.571, No.84, eff. 60 days; Nov.
6, 2002, P.L.1096, No.132, eff. 60 days)

Re: What exactly does CCW cover?
How about this?
§912. Possession of Weapon on School Property.
(a) Definition.—Notwithstanding the definition of “weapon” in section 907 (relating to possessing instruments of crime), “weapon” for purposes of this section shall include but not be limited to any knife, cutting instrument, cutting tool, nun-chuck stick, firearm, shotgun, rifle and any other tool, instrument or implement capable of inflicting serious bodily injury.
(b) Offense defined.—A person commits a misdemeanor of the first degree if he possesses a weapon in the buildings of, on the grounds of, or in any conveyance providing transportation to or from any elementary or secondary publicly-funded educational institution, any elementary or secondary private school licensed by the Department of Education or any elementary or secondary parochial school.
(c) Defense—It shall be a defense that the weapon is pos¬sessed and used in conjunction with a lawful supervised school activity or course or is possessed for other lawful purpose. (Added by L.1980, Act 167(1), eff. 12/15/80.)
I always went to my kids school without my gun, but i never thought to take the knife out of my pocket. Guess if im gonna be a rebel i might as well just keep the gun.
It wouldnt be a big deal but i almost always have a 3-4" knife in my pocket, its usually duller than hell from me cuttign construction fabric or something.

Re: What exactly does CCW cover?
i never really read this section closely before. isn't carrying a kel tec, baby glock, snubbie revolver, etc. technically a violation of the bolded part of this section (since they are specifically made for concealment)? i wonder what the definition of "specially made for" is? weird.
(i know people don't actually get arrested for carrying small guns...this wording just struck me as odd, though.)
