Beretta 92fs or RIA 1911
It's anniversary time for me and the significant other. So that means new handgun time. Looking at two guns, the beretta 92fs or the rock island armory 1911 mil spec. What gun would you choose and why? Take into account this will be a full time range gun and possible home defense and maybe sometime winter carry

Re: Beretta 92fs or RIA 1911
RIA for me. They are made by ARMSCOR, same as the old Charles Daly 1911's were, and I own 2 of those.
One is a regular carry the other is my night pistol. I started shooting 1911's in the 1970's, and these are the ones I choose to own now. They have been extremely reliable and accurate pistols, more than ANY others I have owned, and if I were going to buy another it would be RIA without question.
Check the ARMSCOR/RIA forum at 1911.org- there are lots of confirmed fans of these solid pistols there:

Beretta 92FS vs RIA 1911?
I have Beretta, and have came crose to come to buy RIA1911. But when you have 2 side by side, difference in quality is night and day...
Go with Beretta, and you wont be sorry.
Not to mention 9mm is MUCH cheaper to practice.
While RIA makes excellent choice for build base(or basic gun just have), Beretta is 10x the gun of RIA...Audemus jura nostra defendere

Re: Beretta 92fs or RIA 1911
I'd choose an Italian-made 92. It's a classic that every collection should have and the quality is top notch. Also, as a 1911 fan I'd choose a Springfield Mil-Spec over the RIA but that's mostly personal preference.

Hard to beat the 1911. There's just something so timeless about it that words just can't fully describe.
"You can't stop insane people from doing insane things by passing insane laws--that's insane!" -- Penn Jillette
"To my mind it is wholly irresponsible to go into the world incapable of preventing violence, injury, crime, and death. How feeble is the mindset to accept defenselessness. How unnatural. How cheap. How cowardly. How pathetic." -- Ted Nugent

Re: Beretta 92fs or RIA 1911
RIA makes a 1911 in 9mm.
Government 99 and 44/100 % pure bullshit.

Re: Beretta 92fs or RIA 1911
Sights on the Beretta are going to kick the crap out of the sights on the RIA military spec. Go Beretta. It is a much nicer gun.
If you want a 1911, may I suggest not going military spec unless you plan on paying to have the work done slowly.

Re: Beretta 92fs or RIA 1911
How can anyone help without the OP listing what he's looking for? If he doesn't care then I guess it doesn't matter, but a 9mm beretta 92fs and a 1911 RIA are two entirely different animals. They both are full size guns and meet the criteria for full time range gun, home defense, as well as winter carry. Beyond that it's simply a popularity contest without the OP addressing any additional concerns/criteria.

Re: Beretta 92fs or RIA 1911
That's true. I just made a few assumptions. For example, he mentioned an anniversary so I assumed he has a wife who may need to use the gun for home defense as well. The Beretta (my vote, BTW) may be a wiser choice for someone new to guns because of the decocker, 9mm round and higher capacity. The decocker could make it easier for carry too if the OP isn't used to carrying a 1911 cocked and locked.
