    Default PA Licensing Centers

For some odd reason my DL expires this year (next month on my bday) after only having it 3 years. I was under the impression that PA DL's were 4 years.

    My question.

O/C at licensing centers? Yes or No
C/C though printing badly? Yes or No
    C/C deeply? Yes or No
NO CARRY AT ALL AT LICENSING CENTERSl Yes or No

Also, can you renew you DL in another county or is it a must you renew in the county you reside in?

    Thanks!

Don't tell me to use the search. I'm old, I'm exempt.

OC'ing is good to go. Plenty of members have done it without issue. Of course that doesn't mean you will get out unscathed, but I haven't heard of any issues so far even from the busy liberal ny/nj border counties out east here.

    I did ti (OC'd) last year to renew mine. Considering the location and clientèle that these places tend to bring out, I figured;

    1) its not on the prohibited places list
    2) its a state agency, and not specifically excluded (like the capital buildings)
    3) they would probably think Im a cop anyway (not a good reason though).

Anyway - no issues here. I did look before doing it and couldn't find anything that said I cannot (legally) carry there.

I wasn't sure. And there is no way I'm going to that part of Erie unarmed or anywhere, really.

What about renewing in a different county? Truthfully, I'd rather go to a neighboring county. The licensing center in Erie is not only far away but a real pain in the ass to get to and eventually find. Also too, when I first went there 3 years ago to switch my NY to PA, my son and me were there 6 hours! I'd rather not have to "make a day of it".

You can go to any photo center.

    Process:

Step 1: Receive an Invitation to Renew (DL60A/DL60R) or obtain Form DL-143.

Step 2: Return completed application with a check or money order made payable to PennDOT in the amount indicated on the form.

Step 3: A camera card will be mailed, and you should receive it within seven to ten working days after form is processed.

Step 4: Once you receive your camera card, you will need to take it along with your Social Security card and appropriate identification to any Photo Center to receive new digitized driver’s license.

Renewals go real quick at the Allentown Airport Rd location.
    They have two lines...
    • The we'll be here for hours line aka: the "we came from NY line".
    • The get your photo taken and get out line

The former is as described, the later is a few minutes.

Unlike LTCF (where you must go to your county sheriff - PA DL can be done anywhere there is a center. Done that too (for the same reasons you stated)

    WOO HOO!!!

I'm going to make the nice trek to Warren county or Crawford county. I'm thinking Warren, not only is it a nice drive but there are a couple of really awesome "sporting goods" stores there.

I've already done the renewal card thing, so I'm good to go!

PA DLs ARE renewed every 4years

Why yours is 3?????? Didn't you come from NY, Michele?

Maybe it has something to do with your NY DL expiration date???

I was also under the impression it was 4 years, and to my surprise got a renewal card a few weeks ago. So, I sent in the check and got the renewal for photo card.

I never thought having a license from another state would impact the expiration date of the new licensing state.

NY DL's are 10 year licenses. My NY wouldn't have expired till (iirc 2015). I opted for a brand new license and expiration date when I changed my name back to my maiden after I got divorced.

I just asked my son, he said his would have expired in 3 years too. He's since given up his PA and went back to a NY DL being he's living back in NY, which ultimately expires in 10 years (well 8 for him now).

I'm wondering if it doesn't have something to do with many NYers getting PA DL's for insurance purposes (cheaper) or because they can't get a NY DL. Though I would think that would be happening more on the east side being its closer. Or maybe PA figures that a NY DL transfer doesn't warrant a 4 year expiration. Mystery.
