Accused murderer escapes in NE Philly

A 22-year-old prisoner charged with homicide escaped from a police van on the way to a prison Saturday afternoon, injuring an officer and prompting a citywide manhunt, police said.

Omar Roane was one of three prisoners who forced their way out of the back door of a Philadelphia Police van at 2:38 p.m. while the vehicle was stopped at Cottman and Frankford Avenues.

Police said Roane is 5'8", 125 pounds, with the following tattoos: "YHM" on the left side of his neck, two tear drops on his upper left cheek and "RIP Rob" on his right hand. He was wearing street clothes at the time of the incident -- tan shorts and a blue-green long-sleeve sweater.

At first I was like, OMG. A murderer on the loose!!!!!

Then I laughed since there are already hundreds of them on the street anyways

Accused murderer Omar Roane, who escaped from the back of a prison van last weekend, was captured Friday night in Harrisburg, police said.

Gloucester City police say 34-year-old Paul Griffith (right), charged with numerous drug violations, kicked out the back window of a patrol car and jumped out the vehicle which was traveling at about 20 miles per hour.

He was wearing nothing but red boxer shorts, a white tank top, and handcuffs — he lost his pants before jumping from the car.

Griffith is described as African-American, 6-feet tall and 200 pounds.

Police say he has family in Philadelphia. Anyone with information should call 911.
