    Default Saiga Conversion

Any Gunsmiths in the Reading area do Saiga conversions?
A Republic, if you can keep it.

Don't ask the guys at Gun Traders....when it came time to do mine I was intimated by the whole process. They told me I should have bought " a real AK" instead of a Saiga....it was a WTF moment. The guy was dead serious too. They told me no one around would do it. That was the last time I ever walked into that place.

I ended up buying everything I needed from Carolina Shooters Supply for well under $100. This is on the 7.62x39 rifle. It is in fact pretty easy to do. If you can put a screw into drywall, you can do the conversion. There are some VERY good videos on youtube that will walk you through it step by step.

A conversion takes a Saiga Sporter rifle (bottom rifle) and "restores" it to all it's AK47 glory. The conversion involves adding the pistol grip, changing the butt stock, replacing the trigger group and modifying the rifle to take standard AK mags. After that the conversion can be as involved as you want to make it; AK furniture, muzzle brake etc.

Hey Quad, I still haven't finished mine

    Oh no!!!!

I was just thinking about you & wondering if you ever got around to the conversion!

How did the move go? I know that we were opening boxes even a year after we moved, so I know the feeling! Winter is coming, right? LOL

I now have over 1,000 rounds through mine without a SINGLE hiccup! I've been using it for 3-gun shoots and I can hold my own in the rifle portion for sure. The recoil does slow me down a bit getting back on target compared to the AR guys, but hell, I only have $450 in the rifle all together! I put a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot sight on it....had it out at the range to sight in & I think it's going to be awesome compared to open sights.

B I V, the conversion is not at all hard to do. Really only need basic handtools. If you get the kit from Carolina everything needed is included. In fact IIRC there site has the link to a good site for doinbg the conversion (step by step with good pics).

The harder ones to do are the .308 and the 12 gauge (depending on how much you want to do). I've helped with more than a couple 12 gauges and done extensive work to mine. I've also done the work on my 7.62x39 hardest part there was tapping the hole for the bullet guide.

That being said the guys so far sent you to the right place with Carolina Shooters Supply.

If you have any questions drop me a PM and I will help ya the best I can.
