yes i did find out that it is a model 1893. now is it worth anything sectacular? by that i mean if i were to have it re-blued, the reciever drilled for scope mounts and the stock refinished would i be hurting the value?

Nope, nothing spectacular. Just another '93 Mauser. If you plan on keeping the rifle, then by all means, pretty it up with a new finish, and do the scope mounts before you do though. Go with a nice set of Leopold bases instead of the Weaver style. They just look nicer.
The 7x57 is a great all around cartridge for Deer and coyotes.
Maybe in 100 years it will be worth a lot, who knows?
It doesn't sound like a special model Mauser that is significantly valuable, so, make it the shooter you want it to be, and a passer-down for your kids. Give it your own history.

Bama Man this may be an old dead post but your insight on jumping in and giving YOUR KNOWLEDGE brother in arms we need more like you...I inherited a 98 when my dad past for 18 months I have been beating my head against rocks, walls and folks to afraid to say it THANK YOU. .318 or .323 THANK YOU
