Phillies Game
I took my wife to the Phillies game last night for our 1-year anniversary. Going into Philadelphia I was carrying even though the area around the park is relatively safe. We went up to the gate and the ushers were frisking people. An older woman frisked me, I told her I was carrying and had a permit as she began. I didn't know that NO ONE, not even off-duty cops were allowed to be armed, so I asked if there was someplace I could check it or just put it back in my car. She was very nice about it, she escorted me to the police command center at Citizen's Bank Park, where they took my info and locked my Kimber up in a lock box. The officer that took my info initially thought I was a cop and asked for my badge number, I told her that I wasn't a cop and handed her my permit. She looked at it and just wrote down my name and address then handed my permit back. She took me back and locked it up in a lockbox. After the game I went back to the station and the detective in charge actually recognized me and took me back to get my firearm. He was very accommodating and was friendly, he even admired my Kimber as I strapped it back onto my belt. You hear stories about cops getting riled up and nasty about people carrying firearms, these were not that type. The guy was personable and acted as if it was normal, shook my hand and congratulated us on our anniversary. The Phillies got their butts kicked by the Dodgers though...

Who owns those pro sports stadiums? I always thought they were funded by tax dollars.

Re: Phillies Game
They are generally run by outside management companies; almost all have lockers or lockboxes if you aren't allowed to carry. Theoretically, they have the boxes for off-duty cops, but generally, a private citizen can lock up, too.

Re: Phillies Game
It's been a few years since I've been to a Phillys game. I was never frisked and carried concealed everytime I went to a game. Looks like I won't be going to any more games if this is their policy.

Re: Phillies Game
Glad it worked out painlessly. The few times I've carried there I'm cautious enough to pick a line where they're not checking too carefully and I've carried right in with no issues.
Pathetic pitching will do you in every time, I couldn't even watch that last night.
BTW, I just rechecked the Phillies website before i hit 'submit', and it now mentions firearms, etc. Prior to this year (and even this past Spring, I think) it didn't say anything about any of that. Hmph.

BlueHen - I'm happy it worked out so smoothly for you.
I've always made an effort to carry past these screenings (Concerts, etc), even if it's my Ruger LCP. Their searches are very cursory and are more directed to keep alcohol outside, and to provide the illusion of security. Without magnometers and very invasive and time consuming searches, it's hard to catch folks determined to bypass their security.
A note - When I choose to carry into an establishment where they are searching, I acknowledge that I might get tossed out and loose my ticket cost because I "violated the terms of my contract". I accept this risk.

Re: Phillies Game
At least they let you check it there and don't force you to take it back to your car. Walking to and from your mode of transportation are the times I would most worry about a mugging or so forth.
