Default Pistol trade in for different gun

I recently won a handgun at a local gun bash and am considering trading it in on another gun.

I kinda like the pistol and may end up just buying the reloading stuff I would need to shoot it.

It is a new, unfired .41 mag Ruger.

I know to expect a hit and will likely call Ace Sporting goods or Federal Firearms to see what their policy is. It would probably be best to sell outright, then buy(or just keep).

Has anyone done a trade like this?

    Thanks for any feedback.

Around here, you usually get a gift card for the particular gun you won. If you don't want the gun, you take the card to the store and they'll tell you the cash value on it, and you can spend in on anything in the store that you want. You don't even have to buy ANY firearm with it.

I drove 130 miles round trip to pick it up and I've always thought about getting a revolver in that caliber. I didn't ask if another gun was optional at that time but seem to remember there was no alternative (I might be wrong on this).

After fondling it for a week and thinking of the cost of dies, brass and bullets, I guess I'm just thinking out loud about other possibilities.

    Thanks.

Sell it privately, get more money out of it, get the gun you really want.

Private sales with net you more money..

Dealers need to make a dollar to stay in business, so they will low-ball you on trade-in value or buy-out.

Trade it in, support your local dealer by selling a 500 dollar gun to the dealer for 200.

Or you can list it here in the classifieds (maybe in others as well) and get the used price for it.

Your dime, your choice. I will also accept donations.

Nice Gun you have there , whoever set up the raffle have good taste in firearms.
I didnt know Ruger still chamber the .41 mag, great.

Why do you have to reload for it? LOts of factory ammo out there for the .41.

The sGs where i shop had a New Smith model 57 for quite a while , dealer wanted $659, i thought it was too much , then it went up to $800, now i'm waiting to see if they lower it , then i'll snatch it.

What did you want to trade in for ? What lenght barrel do you have .

Yes definately sell it privately to get the most out of it.

Can't hurt to pop it in the classifieds. Especially since that way you have trade options. Maybe some one really wants the Ruger and they're willing to part with something you really want.

I'd give it a try. I've always had good luck with our classifieds section.

I was checking around the net and didn't see a whole lot of .41 ammo.

Chances are pretty good I will keep the Blackhawk. I guess I'm just used to the feel of my Redhawk.

I'll call around and see if someone local has 100 rounds or so, take it to the range and see how I like it.

This one has a 6" bbl , hard rubber checkered grips and a black front sight.

I do have to shoot it one handed with my non dominant hand till the Doc clears me to use my right hand.

    Thanks for the replies.
