less expensive 3 gun shotty?
hey all,
looking for pointers for a good but less expensive semi auto shotgun for 3 gun stuff... looking to keep it cheap and easy to work on (no benellis).
i like the remington 1100 and 1187 but don't know much about them. Just need to be able to add a mag tube extension so it holds 8 or so and be 22-26 inch barrel.
any suggestions?

The Mossberg 930/935 semis are reasonable ($400-$500 range) and easy to work on. Parts aren't as readily available the Remmys, but they're out there. Choate Machine and Tool makes mag tube extensions and pistol grip stocks for them. Mossys are also Made in the USA, if that's a purchase factor for you. They also come in numerous configurations, barrel lengths, etc. Check out Mossberg's website
Also, see here for pics of my Mossberg 935 SPX; the barrel's a bit small for your application (18.5"), but like I said, they have different configs on the website's product pages"Political Correctness is just tyranny with manners"

Re: less expensive 3 gun shotty?
My recommendation:
-Used Remington 1100 w/24" barrel (if you want 9 shots) approx $400
-These mag extensions: $54 http://www.tjgeneralstore.com/magazine_extensions.htm
-Replace the stock 1100 carrier assembly with this one: $34 http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=185213
With regards to the Mag Ext: IIRC, you need to check the 3-gun rules regarding how many rounds you can load at one time in the shotty.Last edited by Hawk; August 4th, 2010 at 02:02 PM.

Scroll on down to chapter 5.
Sometimes there is an "open" or "outlaw" shoot where anything goes.
Run whatcha brung even if that happens to be a street sweeper/striker 12.

Re: less expensive 3 gun shotty?
The options above would all work, as well as the Stoeger 2000 (not sure of USPSA rules though, but it's a serviceable shotgun with heavier loads).
But, I STRONGLY recommend staying away from Charles Daly semis. The locking lug part of the bolt likes to shatter after some use. Much better, more reliable options out there.
