This website's acronym needs to be changed
An acronym shouldn't have anymore than 3 letters. Sometimes.....SOMETIMES it can have 4 if its for good reason. Kind of like the same rules as sometimes the letter "Y" is considered a vowel, or how when grouping numbers anything over 3 numbers needs a comma....well, sometimes if its only going to be 4 numbers, a comma isn't needed.
The only time a an acronym can have more than 3 letters is when it actually makes its own word and the word therefore, can literally speak for itself. Like "Nascar" Its easy to spell and remmeber.
I sometimes joke on here and say "the PAFOAFAOFAFOAFAAAAOAOOA Forum" becuase it just looks like someone banged on the keyboard. I have also seen some people call it the "POOFA" forum. Simply because there are too many and unnecessary letters.
Look at the "NRA", National Rifle Association. Its not the National American Rifle Owners Association. Which would make it the "NAROA" That would be ridiculous. Or for another isntance, "ATF" is good, "BATFE" is not. They want to look cooler with more letters, but its not.
Pennsylvania is one word, therefore one letter can represent it, the letter "P", that gets rid of the "A", Firearms is an important word so keep that. There is the "F" Now we move onto owners, irrelevant, drop it. And that brings us to Association, which is the "A".This place should be called the PFA Forum........or something that follows a little more suit than POAFAFAOFOFAFOAP, everytime I type it I actually have to stop and think for a second and look it over to make sure its right because its such a jumble.Last edited by Franky4Fingers; August 3rd, 2010 at 12:34 PM.

Re: This website's acronym needs to be changed
PAFOA is an initialism or alphabetism, which mean the same thing. It is not an acronym, nor is there any random limit to how long an acronym can be that I've ever stumbled across. Acronyms are an initialism which creates a word, such as SONAR or RADAR. All of these are abbreviations.

Re: This website's acronym needs to be changed
I think the OP is spot on. "Branding" is about creating an instant association of a brief term to your organization. PAFOA IMHO doesn't quite get it done.

PAFOA.
PA-FOA
FOA= Firearms Owners Association
PA= Pennsylvania
It works for me.==============
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!”
~Samuel Adams

Re: This website's acronym needs to be changed
With only 690 some posts, you're obviously having a hard time remember this site's address.
Seriously, though...if I tell people about this site I usually have to say "PAFOA" quite a few times before it sinks in.Last edited by Andrew17019; August 3rd, 2010 at 02:00 PM.

Re: This website's acronym needs to be changed
So many people here are so quick to argue something, they'd tell you your rear end was punched in if you said it was bored out.
The point of my post is that it should be short and sweet, nothing should ever be more complex than it has to be. It also should be catchy and stick in your mind, Like NASCAR. PAFOA does not.
