Exclamation OC'ing While Doing Yardwork --- Cops Show Up...

So, I was at my parent's house yesterday to help my dad with some yardwork that he needed to get done. I decided it would be best if I mowed the yard and he trimmed the trees/bushes. Well, I was OC'ing my Glock 26 in my Fobus paddle holster. Lots of people were out walking around the neighborhood. Mostly people I knew, so I waved. Well, someone I don't know walked by the house with his 3 kids and his wife, and gave me the most evil stare I had ever gotten in my life (even while not OC or CC). 10 minutes later, Lancaster State Police are pulling up to my house. Cop gets out of the car...

THIS IS THE BASIC OF WHAT WAS SAID...

    LEO: Excuse me, sir.
    ME: Hey. How are ya?
LEO: What's goin' on? We got a call about a guy with a gun.
ME: Uhm, I'm mowing the lawn and carrying my Glock.
LEO: Did you wave it at anyone? Pull it out of the holster? Put your hand on it at all?
ME: No. Just mowing my lawn.

    Then the neighbor comes over...

NEIGHBOR: He has a gun! Arrest him!
    LEO: For what?
NEIGHBOR: I SAID HE HAS A GUN!
LEO: He's not doing anything wrong.
NEIGHBOR: GUN!!! HE HAS A GUN!!!
LEO: Sir, he's not breaking the law. He's on his own property. Go home before I charge you with criminal trespass and harrassment.

    Neighbor leaves.

LEO: Jonathan, I know you can legally carrying a firearm openly without a license. But, can I see your carry license?
    ME: ::hands over LTCF::
LEO: Do you wanna file charges against _____ for calling this in?
ME: No. I just wish he would've come over and talked with me before freaking out.
LEO: Alright. Sounds like things are good here. Have a nice day. If there anything else we need for the report we'll give you a call.
    ME: Sounds good.

LEO leaves and goes over to my neighbor's house and talks with him before heading back to HQ.

The Trooper was really cool about it. Never said he had to detain me or search me or remove my firearm. Told dispatch everything was OK and he'd be clear soon.

    Questions:
    1) Anyone else ever have this happen to them while on their own property?
    2) My neighbor needs an education. Do you think it'd be wise to go over there and talk with him about it?

Thanks in advance for the input!

I've dealt with some LEOs that had attitudes before and were cocking about themselves being a LEO. This Trooper was very calm and never got loud with me. So, I wasn't gonna give him a hard time and bust his balls about refusing to give him my LTCF even though I know I didn't legally have to.

I wouldn't have shown him my LTCF, but at least he knew you were not breaking the law.

And I don't know that I would talk to the neighbor. It might help to give him a flyer, and try to talk to him. But, from the way he acted, I don't think it would do any good.

I always CC or OC (usually the latter) around the house and on my property. I guess most people just don't notice. Neighbor asked me once why I carry just out of curiocity, he's cool about it anyway. If anybody calls cop on me I wish ours will be as cool as yours.

As of the education - it takes 2 to tango. So unless the pupil wants to be educated (and I saw no sign of it) it will be just waste of time, not to mention, he might call cops on you if you'll try to approach him in his place. Just ignore the idiot.

He was probably just covering his ass. He's investigating a report of a guy with a gun, the guy has a gun, the cop was cool to him but if he left and the OP then went commited a crime with that gun the cop has cover as to why he didn't prevent it from happening because you know he'd get blamed.

Unless/until the cop demanded it, or gave him a hard time for refusing to hand it over, I'm not willing to pass judgment on the cop for a polite request.

the police are under no duty to prevent crime or protect citizens so other then bad pr what is he covering his ass against? clearly i'm in the minority here so I'll just leave this thread alone.

That's an interesting thought, but does that go for if I get drunk, get in my car, and run over a group of school children?

I mean, I've been pulled over before, and the cops were "cool" about me speeding, and let me go. Should they be in trouble for not stopping me when they had the chance?

I'm sure you don't agree, but sadly it's what most people would want in terms of guns. Stop them before they have a chance to be criminals. Sad.
Some say that his discharge is luminous.
