also, based on your OP, i would recommend you try a S&W 908, or a S&W M&P or Springfield Armory XD, all three come standard or are available with a manual safety, iirc
If we are going for larger pistols like these:

    CA Rami

    Beretta Storm subcompact.

I found both triggers to be terrible to me so the triggers are on a scale to me.. The Glock was a crisper suck and the XD was a more mushy suck. They are in the same family, SR9 (heavy suck), Glock (crisp heavy suck), XD( lighter mushy suck), M&P(heavy mushy suck).

The xd and storm are nice,, but way too big,, the single stack variety tend to be more her size.. actually, I even prefer that as I have a 1911.. We looked at a skky but I heard mixed things on them and hesitated.. I like the PF9 but the safety,, and need to check out the kahr..

Taurus Slim 709 is out now and 708 and 740 are scheduled for release latter this year... also the Sccy cpx-1 all meet these qualifications and are far less expensive than other options posted
build quality is a whole other thread though...

I have never shot any of these so i cannot really weigh in on that.

I got a PPK/S in 380 for my girl friend a while back and it ended up kicking harder than my S&W 3914 in 9MM. So best to shoot one before you purchase if at all possible.

th eonly thing i can think of is the bersa 380's... you can check out the sr9c... small frame with a double stack thats about the same width as a single stack 1911..

I looked at the SR9c and was not real sure why it's considered a compact. It's not that much smaller than the SR9. And it's a good size bigger than my compact 45, but it is way lighter. I consider that a small full size "compact" we are looking for a "sub compact" if you go by some manufacturers versions of compact.

if it had the sr9c mag in it then its almost an inch shorter on both sides... agian just throwing some ideas out for ya.... i mean with the demands your asking theres not much on the table... so your decision should be fairly easy...

Just my 2 cents but the SR9c would be worth trying without the extended mag which would make it more compact. Take her to a range where you can rent a few pistols and she can make up her mind. If she doesn't like to shoot it she wont feel comfortable enough to carry it..All the choices mentioned in this thread are good choices but ultimately it should be her choice..

    ^^ This!!

It is a little wide, but it conceals surprisingly well, and shoots even better.

    And it's CZ....
