Default live round stuck in chamber of 9mm xdm

Was shooting some reloads through my 9 mm xdm yesterday, and ended up with a live one getting stuck in the chamber. The slide does not move either, when I try to move it I can see the whole barrel assembley move a little bit.

Any suggestions? I do plan on taking it to a gunsmith, but I want to make sure there is not a safe way for me to deal with this before I do that,

Did you try to fire the round, or is the gun out of battery? I am unfamiliar with the XD and not a gunsmith but am merely approaching this from a mechanical standpoint. I would suggest just taking it to a gunsmith.

BUT, if there is enough travel on the extractor you could push the side of it to pop it off the rim to slide the action back and lock it open. Then you could tap the round out with a squib rod.

I AM NOT A GUNSMITH NOR DO I HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THE XD. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Not knowing it was stuck at the time, I did try to fire it, and nothing happened. It was than I realized it was stuck.

Unfortunatelty there is not enough travel on the extractor to allow me to do much.

Sounds like you got a round that either wasn't fully resized or missed getting crimped.

Put the top edge of the slide (above the barrel) on the edge of a table, hold the grip with one hand and smack the back of your hand with your other hand (YES it is hard to explain) but it is easy to do.

lol...got a pic of that? Am I correct in understanding that the goal is to apply some force to the top of the slide to try and dislodge the extractor?

I am also almost tempted to try to fire this this again. The striker status indicator is in the out position, which tells me its ready to fire, but when I looked at the chamber, there is some brass from the round showing...Im new to this pistol, so Im not sure if this is normal or not ( I always was under the impression that no brass should be visible in a loaded firearm).

I wouldn't try to fire it again. Brass showing tells you that it is "out of battery" the firearm shouldn't fire and if it does it could be very hazardous! Out of battery and brass showing means the round isn't fully supported and could go "kaboom" in a bad way if it fired.

    I sent you a PM

I thought 9mm luger rounds were not crimped? Is it FMJ? How do you crimp a FMJ bullet?

Ive always put a slight taper crimp on my 9 mm reloads to get rid of any belling around the case mouth.
