How to practice discretionary shooting at home?
I am planning to set up this type of target at home to practice discretionary shooting:
.But I don't want to bother someone to yell out random numbers or shapes for me. I think I could set up a laptop in front of me and use a random number generator like this to practice with the numbers:http://www.graphpad.com/quickcalcs/randomn1.cfm, but I can't find a random shape generator that fit my purpose. Perhaps I'm not searching with the right key words.
Any suggestions?

If you are going to go the trouble of involving a laptop, record some MP3s or other audio of yourself calling sequences. Then play them on shuffle on iTunes or a similar AV player on your laptop. Or on your digital music player of choice with earphones.

Great idea -- how about just rolling a die (or whatever the singular of "dice" is)

That would work, and is a good idea for slower drills. Me personally I training with only having a fraction of a second to respond. Though I guess it would be pretty easy to make the die big enough to see from the ground and see how fast you can react.
Ive done something like what Gordon set up in his OP but I spread out the different shapes and had a shooting partner behind me with a stopwatch calling out numbers while I am still holstered. As we progressed we would throw in other things like stressing our bodies and getting our heart rates up, then calling out multiple numbers quickly, and having to hit them in order.

I shot a match once where you rolled a huge die made out of wood. The targets were numbered 1-6. Whatever number you rolled you shot first then shot the rest in sequence. So if you got a 4 you would shoot 4 5 6 1 2 3.

Re: How to practice discretionary shooting at home?
If you wish, i could probably rig up a program to your purpose.
standard random number (or shape, same thing) generators are missing something something shooters need badly: variable timing. generally, one needs to key the generator each time a new number is required: instead, it would be better for the generator to spawn new results at random intervals, requiring the "shooter" to learn flexible timing. gotta write a program for shooters if you want that.
PM me if you're interested (I will most likely forget if you don't )ONE TO THE HEAD!!!!

Record an audio track on your PC and put it over to an MP3 player. Make 5 or 6 tracks, all different order, pace, etc. Have someone else make one for you. Should be pretty easy. Depending on your hearing protection, you could even run it into the muffs as well for the range.
