    Default Training gear reccomendations

I am taking "General Defensive Carbine" from Insights Training in September at West Shore Sportsmans. I am curious what those who have taken carbine courses find most useful (and useless) gear-wise. For instance, chest rig or belt pouch for rifle mags? Single or double mag pouch for handun? This class in not "fantasy camp" but rather a fundamental and reality based course. If anyone has suggstions or particular brands/products that work for them please let me know. Thanks!

I also would be interested in hearing what recommendations you guys may have for this fellow... OP- also take into effect placement of the pouches/holsters/mag dump/etc.
I personally was looking into blackhawk but didn't really have anything prebuilt, so I am currently making a list of what pouches to get and trying to work out where to put them.

Usually the class will have a list of required items and suggested items to bring.

Chest Rigs are a PITA to get gear out of on the fly. I prefer Blade Tech's Thigh Rig for AR mags.

I would suggest a good set of knee pads.

That is what she said. Seriously I agree a chest rig or belt rig up front will be a pain if you have the weapon slung/slinged/slang? to you over the pouches. I have short femurs but on the average guy a thigh pouch would be very natural. Even while laying on your stomach you could reach the pouch easily.

I asked my Uncle who teaches this kind of stuff and he immediately said "comfortable knee pads".

Ive never taken any formal civilian training corces other than what I had to take for my CCW here in NC. But at every small arms school I attended in the Corps I always liked training with a bare bones rifle, and a drop leg pouch for ammo. Reason being is optics fail, gear changes, etc. Train with as little as possible that way I ended up better than my training when I added good gear in real life.

Go with belt mounted pouches, either kydex or The Wilderness.

Chest Rigs have their place but not usually in an entry level course.

You will be shooting from prone so I would advise against any type of thigh rig.

Why? Hell its easier to get to your leg when prone than your gut.

Knee pads, elbow pads, and some sort of hydration arrangement like a Camelbak come to mind. Understand that whatever you do for carrying magazines in a training situation (like a chest rig or a MOLLE plate carrier) may not be what you would do in the real deal. Wearing a half dozen or so AR magazines is bound to get you more attention than you may wish to endure, SHTF or not.
