Default What is the report on the Ruger 44mag rifles?

What is the report on Ruger's 44mag rifles? I think they come in level action and semi auto that sounds like that would be a popular package but you hear far more about the Ruger 1022 then these rifles.

    Are they still being made?

    Are the accurate and durable?

Are they reliable? I guess that goes without saying its a Ruger.

How much do they cost? I want one, I never see them at local gun stores.

I think Marlin makes a 44 mag rifle don't they?

Ruger at one time produced several .44 rifles: a semi-auto (.44 carbine), a lever acttion (96/44) and a bolt action (77/44). I know the carbine and the lever are out of production and I think the bolt action has been phased out also, but Ruger's web site can confirm that. I've never owned one but have always heard good things about them. I have owned a Marlin in .44, along with one in .357 and they are fine guns and still in production. Winchester also made .44 levers, but no more, and Henry is still producing nice looking rifles in pistol calibers but I haven't owned one of them either. H&R (now owned by Marlin which is now (I think) owned by Remington) has a .44 barrel available for their single-shot rifle. I'm sure there are a few others also.

    Thumbs up Marlin 1894 Levers...

I can speak for the Marlin lever rifles. They are top quality FUN shooters!
I have them from .22 up to 30-30. Very accurate and good looking guns.

It's cool to match them up with your handgun calibers and save on ammo for a fun day at the range.

I own a 77/44 and it is my main deer rifle. Shoots very good, I put a 1.5 - 4X scope on it due to where I hunt. I also carry a 44 Mag handgun so I don't have to carry different ammo. Would love to get the lever action to go along with the bolt. The auto loader would be nice except you can't hunt with it (and they are expensive if you can find one)

My 77/44 is SS barrel and action, synthetic stock which makes it nice when you're hunting in sloppy weather. It has never failed me. I sighted it in at 75 yds and it's dead on from 50 to 100 yds (where I hunt 75-100 yds is a long shot, its very thick brush and scrub oak) and small branches won't deflect the 240 gr bullet.

My step father had a Marlin 44mag lever when I was growing up and it was, by far, the most fun I've had with a rifle. His had a shorter (16 or 18 inch) barrel and was very accurate and reliable. Good luck finding one and they usually aren't that cheap...
