Here is something that a DA or the police could argue against someone carrying an orange tipped gun..

That with a gun painted with an orange tip it could be construed to be concealed by means of deception leading people to believe it is just a toy instead of a real firearm. ..sorta like certain guns are Any Other Weapons under federal law because of their appearance is not that of a typical gun.

I'm no lawyer, but I do believe the above is a very viable theory that could pan out against someone.

I think one thing that is being glossed over is the orange tip is not a safety thing that airsoft makers or players do, its a federal regulation on ales and imports.

Ive seen tons of them with painted black tips, and have at least one from before the regulations that looks and operates exactly like a Beretta 92.

THE MORAL IS THAT ORANGE TIPS ARE IRRELEVANT in making the shoot/no-shoot decision. Actual LEO training scenarios exist that teach us to disregard the color of the muzzle. Anyone who thinks an orange muzzle will protect him is a moron, because LEOs are actually taught to disregard the muzzle's color--and to disregard badges, for that matter, as I mentioned in another post, so having an OC badge, say, and/or an orange muzzle serves no purpose either.

What struck me most was that his mother let him ride his tricycle unsupervised at 4 AM, which to me says that his entire environment was perhaps irremediably wrong.

Obviously everyone has a female parent, but you mean that boy actually had a mother? I question that. Any female rodent takes better care of its offspring. Well, different species have different times of the day deemed dangerous to their offspring, but you probably get my drift, Phil.
