Replacing the XD
After a few times to the range and having and instructor show me a proper grip I can't seem to get the XD to be the gun for me. So I'm heading to the shop this week at some point to trade it in and replace it. I would prefer to get another .40 cal because I have an abundance of rounds for the XD.

Re: Replacing the XD
You would recover more money from your XD by putting it up for sale of trade here on the forum. The shop owner has to make a profit for himself, as he owns the shop to make money. Any trade you get will be far less then the "retail level" you can get from another consumer.
However, find out for yourself. I suspect your dealer will offer you approximately half of what you could get on the resale or trade market person to person.Join the groups protecting your rights from the fools trying to take them from you!

I'll see what he has to offer. Any suggestion on what to replace it with.

Sure. Go to your local range that rents firearms and rent a bunch and try them out. Better yet, get your buddies together for a group shot and handle as many as you can. Test drive before you buy.

Re: Replacing the XD
See that's what I didn't do first. I went to a shop and the owner and some customers were talking about this that and the other thing about how he sells 3x as many XDs as any other gun. They basically talked me into it

Re: Replacing the XD
Like was stated above, shoot as many as you can. Buying a gun without firing it is like buying a car without sitting in it. I would love a new Nissan 370Z, but I would later come to find that my head hits the roof. By the way, why wasn't the XD for you? Grip?

Re: Replacing the XD
I must ask a few questions:
Was the XD your first handgun?
Do you have experience shooting rifles / shotguns?
Why did you pick the .40 caliber?
What is the main purpose of this firearm?
How much shooting experience do you have (Estimate thousands of rounds or years of regular shooting)?
By answering these I may be able to help you a little bit more. For example, I am 32 years old and have been regularly shooting since I was seven years old. When I started shooting and reading every gun magazine/book I could find it was the age of the "wondernines" and that left such an impression on me I only carry revolvers for defense. Sure, I own a few autos (mostly .22's and German made steel) but wheel guns work for me.Join the groups protecting your rights from the fools trying to take them from you!

Voted G23. Tons of available holsters, you can get 9mm and .357 conversion barrels and shoot different calibers, and it's easy (enough) to conceal for EDC. I would also reccommend the M&P40 in either full size or compact, depending on the intended use. My $0.02......

Re: Replacing the XD
I voted G23, but you should shoot a couple different pistols and find one you like. Good luck!

Re: Replacing the XD
Like that's a bad thing? XD's are one of the most popular guns on the market. They were out selling glocks for the last few years.
I would try and go shoot a bunch of different guns, or atleast feel out the grip (fondle) on each gun inside the gun shop. The Glock grip is radical compared to the other guns you listed. It either works for you, or doesn't.
