Cleaning a pistol with toothpaste???
A friend of my grandfather's told me today to try using toothpaste to clean the outside of my slide. He said and I quote " Jus' don' use that silly whitenin shit, and it'll will shin'er up good."
Now putting my confusion aside, is he crazy? Or has someone done this before?
I know that it works for silver and gold jewelry, but for an XD pistol?Last edited by Cyte; July 13th, 2010 at 09:50 PM.

I wouldn't use a rubbing compound product not intended for firearms on one of my babies. Just like I don't use hoppes #9 on those hard to reach places between my teeth my toothbrush can't reach.

Toothpaste works great for blending touchup blue on revolver turn lines. Doesn't affect the old blue yet removes the touchup.

Re: Cleaning a pistol with toothpaste???
Toothpaste is a mild abrasive. Unless you have something on your firearm you want abraded then I'd steer clear of that practice.

I use isoproply alcohol on a rag... Works just fine.

I use Ronsonol lighter fluid to gum up old lubes and such then clean and lubricate it with weapon shield.

+1 Cleaning product's for firearm's are not expensive...FIREARM'S ARE I know a lot of people who substitute brake cleaning fluid for Powder Blast which they swear by & I've wittinessed it clean's just as good & it's a LOT cheaper & I've even bought some brake cleaner but I can not bring myself to use it on my Expensive firearm's.
