2 OC Encounters in VT
Figured I'd make my own post for this. I'm stuck in VT for the week. I came to visit my g/f while she's finishing up her last month here. As I got into VT my truck died (transmission), so I am stuck here 'til my buddy with his bigger, more power truck & trailer come to get me this weekend. So I've been OC'ing all week without any questions. Local restaurants, gas stations, super markets, woods, streets, ice cream shops, everywhere. No problems or people talking to be about it. Well, that's without any questions 'til now.
It first happened a couple days ago. Just the usual talking/stares. My g/f and I were on the water front in Burlington, walking down one of the paths to go sit at a bench on Lake Champlain. Two girls were in a swinging bench and as we walked by it was the usual "Does he have a gun??" "Where?" "Right there" - walked further past them to the point where my g/f (who was on my strong side) wasn't shielding them anymore. "Oh wow, yah it is" type chatting and staring. That's the most I've had for almost a week here.
Then today, her and I went into Waggy's Sunoco / Convenience store. First thing I was asked when I stepped foot in the store:
Clerk: "Are you a cop?"
Me: Negative.
Clerks: You can't just carry out in the open like that then without a permit.
Me: In the state of Vermont there is no permit required to carry a firearm.
Clerks: Not in the City of Burlington.
Me: Burlington is included - they don't have any ordinance prohibiting the carry of firearms (I did research and can't find what he was talking about).
Clerks: Oh, really?
Me: Yep. Does your store have a "No Guns" policy? I didn't see a sign outside.
Clerks: Nope.
Me: Okay, thanks.
So far, that's about it. I did a search for the whole prohibition of OC'ing in Burlington and, as I expected, it seems to be unfounded.Last edited by Gangle; July 8th, 2010 at 10:03 PM.

Re: 2 OC Experiences in VT
Sounds like VT is far more exciting for OC than boring old PA.
Then again, a couple data points don't mean much for my silly comparison

Re: 2 OC Experiences in VT
Never been to VT, but from what I hear there are the groups that are die-hard gun folks that are anti big government, and then there are the groups that are HUGE lefties that hate everything freedom. You seem to have encountered one of those. It seems like your trip was pretty good overall, though.
They did elect Howard Dean after all.
