2 3/4 inch vs 3 inch 12 gage muzzle energy
Hi everyone. I have been googling like crazy trying to find a chart that compares the various gages and shell sizes in terms of muzzle energy.
I am most interested at the moment in knowing what the muzzle energy of a 12 gage 2 3/4 shell is and a 12 gage 3 inch. It is being shot out of a New England Pardner.
Beyond this, if anyone has a link to a detailed chart showing muzzle energies of various shells I would be thankful.

If the "numbers" themselves aren't of vital concern, you can just figure the WEIGHT of the shot charge multiplied by the VELOCITY.
Of course, the 3" Mag fires a heavier charge, but most shotgun loads are from 1150 to 1250, on the average. Maybe a few get into the low 1300's, and only those especially loaded as "ultra fast" get to 1485 (according to the manufacturer's claims), but they DO fire 1-3/8 oz of shot, thus creating an inordinate recoil. In 10-ga Mag, that would produce a significant kick.
Here is a chart of velocities for various stuff Cabela's sells
