help identifying year of a Colt 1911

not sure of the best place to put this ...

but I just aquired a Colt .45 Govt Model with a serial 251xxx-C on it
and im trying to find the best place to identify what year it is from

any help would be appreciated .. and as soon as I get the battery
recharged for my camera .. i will pop up some pix

With the info you provided, the year of manufacture was between 1950 and 1969 (because of the "C" suffix, if it had been a "C" prefix, it would have been made earlier than 1950). Pictures would help a lot to get a better idea. It would appear to be an earlier rather than later one because the "C" suffix started with 240228C and ended with 336169C.

1951 as far as I can tell. One of 5,479 made that year. Very nice.

According to my coffee table book on Colt Firearms your Govt. Model was made in 1951. It's a pretty handy reference work, with tables of serial numbers for the various models.
