    Default Parts kit

My son is interested in getting a parts kit to build a ak. Who is a good supplier to get a kit from?

I've had the best luck buying mine from individuals in forums such as "The AK Forum", "The AK Files", and even AR15(dot)com. I prefer the original barrel still in the trunnion with original receiver stub riveted, ie. no de-mill. If you're patient, Romanian kits that need only a receiver*, may be had for $250 - $300.

Many of the online vendors such as Centerfire Systems, Apex Gun Parts, etc. seem to have mostly barrel-less kits, which makes the build more challenging.

*and any req'd compliance parts such as hammer, disconnector, trigger, etc.

    Here's a "complete kit" from a vendor http://whatacountry.com/romanian-ak-47-parts-kit.aspx
They even have the going price Tapco G2 trigger group (counts as 3 compliance parts) $27
I used a Tapco G2 in my June build and its the 1st Tapco FCG I ever used and whaddya know- NO TRIGGER SLAP (yay!) Unlike those POS Arsenal FCGs

Are you looking for anything special? Is he/you going to do the build or are you going to ship it out to a 'smith?

If you have a 10+ Ton press, then I say let him try. Other tools/jigs can help but are not needed.

    Some good places to check:
    apexgunparts.com
    centerfiresystems.com
    copesdistributing.net

These are off the top of my head. If you want some rare russian 74 kits, check out rguns. They have them listed as Bulgarian though.

WARNING: THIS IS A SHAMLESS PLUG!

I have a ak for sale in the class section, it needs a barrel, like most kits.
also most kits need a receiver, mine comes with one (so you won't have to spent $50-$100 on one), $240

Great if you want something to work on, i just have to many projects going on right now.
