That is essentially what I have heard. Makes them great defense guns, when you can buy whatever they have on the shelf and be good to go. I'd still stick with 1 brand if possible, mainly for peace of mind...

I like Federal Hydrashock. thats what I carry on most all my 9mm and 45acp carry guns.
I use Winchester Ranger and Federal FPD for .40sw.

I have cretical defence .38sp+p for my wheel gun, and usualy load my 686 with .357mag Winchester Silver tip full magnum load for bedside duty

I would only worry about reliability. They all put nice size holes in bad guys so I wouldn't even worry about what brand as long as it's a quality manufacturer. I really don't think the weight matters either. You can either get lighter and faster or heavier and slower. Felt recoil should be the same. I personally can't tell the difference between different weight bullets. Personally I would rather go lighter and faster to possibly get more bullet expansion. A couple web sites I looked at had the Remington Gold Saber 165 gr as the top .40 cal bullet for 1 shot stops on bad guys.
