    Default Any Tips

I just purchased a new gun for carry to replace my .38 Special +P. I bought a Springfield XD .40. Any recommendations as to what to carry when I'm out in the way of hollow points and what I can expect. I chose this over a Taraus Millennium .45.

Federal HST's and Speer Gold Dot's are common.

Well I did grab a box of Hornady custom hollows 155gr. And the FMJs I have to traget with are 180gr...Is there a reason why the customs are so much less and will it affect performance?

180 is the most common as well as 165 the 155 Hornady is designed to reduce recoil a bit more. I like the 180 in Speer GD and Winchester PDX-1.

The proper way to do it is to try several brands and see which one is best for your gun: e.g feeding ejecting , recooil, accuracy etc. every gun is diffrent including every xd, it might not like the ammo you bought for it, dont limit the performance of your gun by limiting yourself to what YOU like, it should be based on what the gun like.

I carry an xd subcompact with Cor-Bon hollow point 135g defense rounds. Like mentioned above buy some rounds from people have mentioned and try them out for yourself. My XD Sub-c handles nice since it is .40 as well with some good amount of recoil given its 3' barrel. I am unsure if yours is subcompact of full size but just get some rounds down the pipe and you will decide what you like and don't like. Good luck!

I don't personally have an XD, but a lot of people at my range shoot them. At least 3 people I've talked to with XDs have said they haven't been able to find a hollow point it won't feed reliably. Pick up whatever your local store has and proof a box or 2 at a time until you feel totally comfortable carrying them. Some are slightly more or less effective than others, but the main thing is that they will reliably feed and fire with your gun!

I've shot every major manufacture of hollow points and ball through my XD and have never had a single problem.
