    Default 10/22 Tacticool Project

Hey everyone, im about to undertake a Ruger 10/22 project and would like to show my steps incase anyone else is interested. I've seen some project ones on here but I plan on this being fully detailed. So here we go then!

I've come across an old Ruger 10/22 at my parents house that seems to be in a "shootable" condition but really looks rough. At the moment my cost is at $0.00 and my goal is to stay under $250 total, now if i needed the rifle then i'd say $400 would be OKAY but I got lucky and dont have to go that route.

My plan is to make this look as close to an AR as possible, keeping it short and compact though.

Also, im no expert on this, but figured there cannot be any better rifle out there to make a first project gun out of so check back later, your input and advise may just be on this rifle!

The S&W is nice but I cant afford to dump another $450 into one when I already have a beat up ruger. Just a fun little project killin some time and giving me cheap range practice. Anyway i'll be getting the first pictures up of the ruger in the current condition later today or tomorrow. Im actually at work right now and was this morning or it'd be on there. I already have the archangel ordered and it should be here early next week.

First question to all of you is this:
I need a very tough cleaner to clean the reciever up. Would like to remove the black paint too. Theres a guy on here that used spray paint remover and was wondering if anyone knew of such a product?

    Second question :
Is it cheaper to re-blue a barrel or just to replace the barrel? Im trying not to spend over $60 on the barrel at this point. Open to options though as the outter parts have minor rust and looks like it was brushed with something as parts are more silverish. See photos later and youll see what im talking about.

Hopefully this will inspire someone else, hate to think its wasteing time posting but as Nate said, the MP 15-22 is much easier but I just dont have the money. Anyone else out there feeling the same?

Here is thread showing how I removed paint off of my reciever...

I used $6 can of stripper from "Klean strip". U can find them at your local wallieworld.

Be foreworned tho - Once you remove paint from any 10/22 reciever, you'll understand as to why Ruger painted reciever.
It took me almost all day with 800, 1200, 2000 grid wet sand paper to get all the tooling marks off of my reciever

As far as barrel goes, it may be cheaper to reblue, but since you can buy a replacement target barrel for as low as $119, I just don't see the point...

    UPDATE:

I've found a replacement barrel for the ruger which is brand new. I paid a very resonable price of $39.99 for it and dont have to worry anymore about fixing the old one. The reciever should be getting done tonight with the cleaner. I dont mind sanding but may not even need to if its covered by the archangel. Will post back soon!

    Try RFC.COM for used parts

    Good luck,
