    Default Speer Gold Dot LE?

What is the difference between regular gold dots and Gold Dot LE?

From what I have heard nothing but the packaging. The LE is a lot cheaper. Last time I bought some it was $22.95/50 at East Coast Gun Sales.

I did some very unscientific tests (catching them in water filled milk jugs), and the Gold Dots peeled back very nicely and consistently.

I bought some from eastcoast gun sales at an outdoor show. They must have been a bad batch of 45 acp. I had a failure every 5. Both in my Taurus and my Kimber.

Could that have been a bad batch? No one ever really says that they've had that many from the same box of gold dots. Atleast i've never found it online.

    That sucks

I have not had any problems with the Non LE Gold Dots. I use them in my 9mm and had used them in my taurus. That was the first and only LE gold dots I bought. The powder even smelled funny and it was very dirty.

I went ahead and bought a 50round box of gold dot LE HP. 124gr 9mm.

They say they are each inspected by a person. so hopefully there are no issues...you said the powder had an odd smell? after you shot it?

I bought it from ammo to go.

Were they in boxes or in a plastic bag? They sell 'reject' batches in bags for a reduced rate for training, which might explain the failures.

I have had nothing but good experiences with Gold Dots in my 9mm's.

Those are exactly what I have, and my RAMI loves them. They did really well in my basic water-jug tests, even out of the 3" barrel.

And the powder does have a strange smell when it's burnt, it really threw me for a loop the first time. My guess is that it is the flash-suppressant (whatever they call the stuff that makes it not light up the sky as much when shot at night).

With the powder smelling that way, is it still safe to shoot? It's for both my Glock 19 and Glock 26

I haven't had any issues with it, it really isn't noticeable unless you stick your nose in the gun and sniff (yes, I did do that).

A friend has some Gold Dots he bought at Bass Pro, and they smell (and shoot/perform) the same...but cost twice as much!
