Re: How much ammo do you stockpile?
I've got "enough" for my current situation and purposes...
I sold all handguns I had that weren't 9mm, so that simplified things for me...
On the unfortunate side - I currently have nothing in the way of a real long gun (AR, AK, etc.). (The .22 plinker doesn't count...)
But I think my next purchase will be an under-folder AK of some type - And most likely in 7.62... Or maybe 5.45. When I have a proper rifle, I then plan on stocking at least 1k in that caliber at any given time...
I've got *lots* more than 1k rounds of 9mm, but that's only b/c I like to shoot several hundred rounds per session, without feeling like I just used up a significant chunk of my stash...

Bones

Re: How much ammo do you stockpile?
Ammo is always a fair investment if bought in quantity and stored well.
The mindset of stocking-up can become very close to an illness(hoarding). Over the years myself and a couple of friends have stocked-up until at my age if the SHTF does not happen soon we are going to have a nice retirement fund or estate.
The biggest price increases seem to happen at the two extremes of the price range. Norinco 762x39 used to sell in case lots for .05-.07 a round, we sold WW white box for $3.95 a box.
I guess the point is whither you are stock piling or looking to invest, buy what you can now because it will not probably not get any cheaper and if They pass some goofy laws you are there.Courage is being scared to death--but saddling up any way. John Wayne

Re: How much ammo do you stockpile?
I generally don't stockpile ammo. I've a few hundred rounds for each gun more or less - but I own more than 40 guns.
I do stockpile components as I handload everything that I shoot, save rimfires.
I have enough for a long time.
I do agree that much of what we read about concerning the use of ammo in TEOTWAWKI or SHTF situations is unrealistic and marvelously optimistic.
If you plan on hunkering down and defending the homestead then there can't be too much ammunition.
Hunting for survival - where? Where are you going to look for any game that won't have twelve other people doing the same thing?
Battlefield pickups? If you survive.....there will be others doing the same thing and fighting for it.
Good thing that I don't believe that doomsday is imminent.
And the recent price rise (gouge).... that was your fellow shooters running out after the election and driving the prices up - fear at work (and the old supply and demand).
