    Default Cheapest .223?

I have very limited free time lately and just can't spend the time necessary to reload .223 for short range (50 yards and in) use out of my AR. I will continue to reload .223 for precision work (77gr Nosler) etc.

What I'm looking for is recommendations and links to cheap .223 ammo that in your experience, will run reliably in an AR-15 and at least be "minute-of-headshot" accurate at 50 yards.

    Thanks guys.

I have had good luck, and decent accuracy from the cheapo PMC ammo. For a while I was getting 20 rounds for $6.00. It is a bit dirty, but feeds and extracts reliably, and is accurate enough for general use.

On a side note, I'd be interested to hear about your accuracy load. I shoot a 69 grain Sierra Match King with 24.8 grains of Reloader 15. My barrel is a 26" Wilson with a 1-8 twist. This is the most accurate I have found.

have fired over 2000 of brown bear with out one problem. Its dirty as hell but I clean my AR after every range trip, so no problem there. Accuracy is ok good enough for plinking.

It's Lacquer coated, but I let my AR cool down every 3rd mag and never had a problem with it gumming up

Cabelas has some nice steel cased .223 that is $4/20. That is 20 cents apiece and that is the cheapest I have seen anywhere either online or in person.

$4/20 sounds good to me. Happen to remember the brand name? I'd like to check the local Cabela's.

AIM Surplus has Silver Bear for something like $4.19/20, plus shipping of course.

I shoot a 77gr Nosler BTHP over 21gr of Hodgdon Benchmark with fantastic results. This load has been awesome out of a 1:7" 16" Noveske SS barrel, a 1:7" 16" Centurion Arms barrel, as well as a 1:8" 16" LaRue (Lothar Walther) SS barrel.

Wolf, Brown/Silver Bear... But I would make sure your rifle eats it first. AR's can be very picky with the steel-cased stuff, and I would be 100% sure before ordering bulk. JMO

If the cheaper stuff doesn't work well for you, I would try the PMC. I normally use a combination of Federal and PMC, but the PMC is usually <$7 per 20, so it's fairly cheap, but it's reliable as well...

I ordered some that should be arriving today. I asked over here http://forum.pafoa.org/ammunition-re...grn-ss109.html if anyone knew about this, but they didn't seem to. I got a couple boxes in with my bulk order to try it out. Although, I have my doubts. It says it's steelcore, but has no M855 designation, and also, at that price it is exactly the same as the FMJ... But We'll see I guess. I'll try them out when I get them and see how they run...

I am not going to lie, i just got a 22 conversion so i only shoot about a mag at the end of each range trip. Even with a dirty ar i have not had any problems with failure to feed or extract.
