i was trying to decide on a toss of of the Ultimak top rail that replaces the gas tube, or the UTG quad rail. either way i plan to run a micro red dot on it.

Not to say we told you so but.......we told you so ! Lol glad you finally ditched the dust cover rail and went with something MUCH better.

For those interested in rails for AKs I have what seems to be a very unique setup...I removed my rear sight and replaced it with a Tech-Sight, the tech-sight replaces the end of the guide rod, the button you push to release the dust cover. It also comes with a new dust cover to properly fit with the tech-sight. It's nice IMO because it widens the sight radius improving accuracy.

Then I got a Samson rear sight rail which goes where the original rear sight is. I dremeled out the middle so I can see thru it with the Tech-sight without any interference.

Now I have my rear sight back by the end of the receiver and a rail where the original rear sight was for mounting optics....works GREAT. Also I can have my optics mounted and still use the iron sights with no problem.
When ALL else fails...the AK won't !! Emotions...??? emotions are for people who CARE !!!

Yeah, funny how the Ultimak ends up radically improving the accuracy. I'm shooting three to four-inch groups at 100 yards without really even trying hard.
