Moving to NJ. Firearm laws?
So im moving to NJ in a month or two. Other than my friend's recommendation to bend over and grab ankles, what is the truth about NJ and their laws regarding firearms?
I have two firearms and want to keep them.
Kriss Super V .45acp Pistol caliber carbine, uses glock 21 mags
Glock 21C .45acp
My friend said hollowpoint rounds are illegal and can get you 2 years in prison.
He also mentioned something about anything larger than 10 rd mags are illegal. Which sucks cause my Kriss uses an extended 30 rd glock 21 mag and std glock 21 mags hold 13 rounds
So can someone shed some light on real firearm laws of NJ?
Thanks

Re: Moving to NJ. Firearm laws?
Is it too late to talk you out of this foolishness?
You cannot take a handgun to a friend's house to show it to him. You cannot take a handgun to a friend's house in PA. Let alone take a handgun to any state outside of NJ to carry. If you are caught with an unloaded handgun in the trunk, taking it to a place that it is legal like Florida or PA, that is no excuse. The transport of a handgun must meet an NJ defense - such as NJSP approved range in PA or FL. You have to leave your handgun at home when you travel out of state unless you satisfy some NJ restrictions. I'm not an expert on this, but you better start with that advice until you are certain that there is more latitude for your circumstance.
What ever you do, do NOT consult the NJSP website on transporting firearms. The website confuses the issues of traveling through the state and traveling into the state with a handgun.
Hollowpoints - Consider them the same as handguns. That's the short answer. A hollowpoint round in your trunk is regulated roughly the same way as a handgun in your trunk. Not exactly, but that's a good starting point until you educate yourself. There are places you can take them and places you can't.
Mag limit is 15, BTW.

Re: Moving to NJ. Firearm laws?
For the OP, ditch the mags over 15.
I believe that the Kriss has a folding stock, that makes it a no-go for NJ.

Re: Moving to NJ. Firearm laws?
1st thing is get your FID card
hollow points to and from the range you can take your guns to any state that allows them you can take them to a freinds house in PA because once your over the state line jersey laws dont matter unless your buying a rifle.
Im not sure but you might have to register the pistol when you bring it in to the state .
check out the site i pmed you.
the laws here are a joke

Re: Moving to NJ. Firearm laws?
why in the world are you moving to NJ???? in addition to their draconian gun laws they have some of the highest taxes in the country. the kriss would be illegal in NJ so you would have to sell it or keep it at someone's house in PA or some other free state. i believe you can have mags up to 15 rds and you can legally keep 20 or 30 rds mags so long as they are blocked to only hold 15 rds. you can own ar15's and other military style firearms so long as they are in ban configuration i.e., no folding/collapsable stocks, no flash hider, etc. i would really re-think moving to NJ if i were you.

Re: Moving to NJ. Firearm laws?
so far I joined the NJ gun forums. good information. Kriss is too new to be banned. folding stock may or maynot be legal. So i will pin the stock. I recall TDI making a kit for the kriss to lock the stock open.
Good to know about the 15 rd limit.
fiancee got a job out in NJ so we be moving soon however it is north NJ and very very close to NY state. So im entertaining the idea of living in NY for "Tax" purposes. "No honey, its not for retarded gun laws. Im trying to save us money"

North Jersey,,eh!
You might want to ask these fine gentleman about Jersey's gun laws.

or these guys might ask you, papers1.jpg
And yes my sympathies for moving to the Nazi state of NJ. Don't buy a house the taxes are INSANE. 10K and up, no joke. Look before you leap. A fellow Yinzer now lives in North Jersey outside of NuYawk and he pays ~18K a year in property taxes. Between him and his wife they make around 250K a year and have 4 kids. They complain they are always broke. His comment " I am always reaching for my wallet" I used to live just over the border in New York near New City and it was just as expensive. Why do you think people commute from the Poconos everyday. Really, really think about this. Just rent for a year and see how it goes.
