Default Shipping a handgun to yourself -- anybody actually done it?

I'm well aware that it is legal to ship your handgun to yourself c/o another person provided you are legal with it there, the other person shouldn't open it, etc, etc. I occasionally drive from the Philly area to New Hampshire and don't trust NJ and [especially] NY to honor federal preemption.

USPS won't do it, FedEx's shipping instructions don't provide directly for it, and UPS's are open to interpretation (how exactly do you convince the counter clerk that you're complying with all federal, state, and local laws?). I assume I'd be taking it to a real (not a counter in a office supply or mailbox place) FedEx or UPS office.

I see several threads with legal/policy opinions, but can't find an instance of anyone actually doing (or even attempting) it. To be clear, I'm talking about handguns -- long guns are a whole different animal.

I'd bury it in the trunk and not give anyone any reason to search for it, personally. Better that than having to file a report on a gun lost in the mail...
Just because 'perfect' is impossible does not mean we should settle for 'broken'.

So I guess the answer is "no."

I'd have no reservation about doing it, but I haven't had the need yet. If someone wants to pay ~$40 for the shipping costs, I'll provide the firearm for a "test shipment" to myself.
