Re: Appleseed 2 day event in Manheim
This is about a 500 round event with shooting in prone, kneeling/sitting and standing positions. There is also 100yd shooting in prone, kneeling/sitting and standing positions for those that can shoot to at least a 6MOA group.
Come on out and get the best fundamentals of rifle marksmanship for the money and the history of April 19, 1775 and how marksmanship made the difference on that day.
Women, kids under 21 and military (active or reserve) shoot free.
The norm is for substantial improvement in your shooting. If you're already that good (can consistently shoot to 4MOA or better) come on out and join us as an instructor!

Yes - the targets are scaled down - check out Mas Ayoob's article
http://www.backwoodshome.com/articles2/ayoob123.html
and his blog post
http://backwoodshome.com/blogs/MassadAyoob/page/11/
quoting mas - the V ring is
100 yd - bottle cap
200 yd - dime
300 yd - base of a 9mm case
400 yd - pencil eraser

Re: Appleseed 2 day event in Manheim
The 4 MOA standard is for any rack grade rifle with iron sights using any ammo (like Military surplus for .308 or .223 and any .22lr.
We have shooters with all sorts of sights on all sorts of rifles
stock Ruger 10-22's and Marlins with factory sights, AR-15's with iron sights, SKS's with factory sights, some come with red dots or scopes. Any rifle is fine - magazine fed is preferred. We've had kids shoot rifleman standard with bolt action, single shot iron sight .22's
We get all levels of skill, from those that just purchased the rifle the night before and have never shot a firearm to those that have been shooting for 60 years and fire thousands of rounds a year. All we ask is for a teachable attitude.
We instruct on the proper use of a sling, the steady hold factors for each position, the 6 steps of firing the shot, how to find and trust your natural point of aim and how to do that as you transition between targets. We also teach magazine changes in the middle of a course of fire and transitions between the positions (with unloaded rifles) We also teach inches, minutes, clicks for changing sights
When we shoot the AQT all of the strings are timed.
Keeping to a 4 MOA standard while firing a total of 10 rounds on multiple targets in 55 seconds starting with an unloaded rifle, having one magazine change in the middle and transitioning from standing to sitting/kneeling is quite a challenge - come on out and give it a try.
You'll definitely learn some new things about April 19, 1775 -even if you're already read Paul Revere's Ride by David Hackett FischerLast edited by lprgcFrank; June 26th, 2010 at 10:12 AM.

Re: Appleseed 2 day event in Manheim
gotta disagree with Bender here . . . . 4 moa at 100y is still a dead perp
I think for people who are unskilled with rifles and such this is probably a good thing. For probably 80% of gun owners that don't shoot as much ach the other 20%, it's probably a good thing.
For the guys who shoot a lot and reload and go shoot some more, it's probably along the lines of a social function more than a learning exercise.
but for $40 a day.... mmmm probably a little excessiveHonesta Mors Turpi Vita Potior ~ 3%

Again I say... show me. I have a responsibility as an American to pass on the tradition. If you're that good so do you. There is no better forum to do that than Appleseed. Prove your worth then help us, we'll need it to teach almost 20,000 students this year and 40,000 next.

Re: Appleseed 2 day event in Manheim
im not wasting $80 just to show you let alone the hours and hours needed to reload tha ammo req,
and my rifle dosent have a mag so the mag change would be odd,
