400 limits the semi auto shot guns.

If you are going to hunt deer in pa it will have to be a pump.

    Ithica

    Remington 870

    Winchester

    Benelli

You will need a different barrel to hunt deer, multi choke for trap, rifled slug for deer.

You know if you search the forum this question has been answered.

Remington 870 Express, 26" or 28" barrel, Improved Cylinder choke - about $300 brand new, sometimes as low as $270.

Then get yourself a rifled slug barrel for about $100.

    Done.

Mossberg 500 multiple barrel set -- my buddy just bought the one with the 28" vent rib double-bead and multiple chokes as well as a heavy-barrel rifled slug barrel w/a cantilver mount and a scope -- it is nice!

Funny thing is he meant to get the Security package with the 28" and 18 1/2" barrel and will be asking me to sell the big game barrel...

    Al

PS: I became Distinguished Expert in Trap w/a Mossberg 500 but back then a vent rib barrel with interchangeable chokes was a specialty item and I had to have a tiny mid-bead custom added by a gunsmith!

Well, u don't NEED a gun w/a decal melted around it.

There are a lot of sabot shotgun rounds to choose from for hunting -- go to a manufacturer's site and read up on these odd, accurate, state of the art shotgun hunting rounds that basically turn your shotgun into an express rifle. You COULD use a smoothbore shotgun barrel and rifled slugs -- check those out too.

Trap? A Modified choke is common -- sometimes people use Full. Both will come with your gun as well as an Improved Cylinder choke. I'd recommend Improved Modified for Trap and you can always get one of those later. Shells? The inexpensive sport packs everywhere are fine: they're four 25-rns boxes of I think 2 3/4" 1 1/8th oz. of #7.5 to #9 shot that aren't overloaded with powder.

    Good luck;

    Al

I just purchased a used Rem 870 Wingmaster for $120(not including shipping or transfer fees)

There are a lot of great deals on 870. I see a lot of used 870 going between 150-300.

I chose a wingmaster over the express model due to the blued finish on wingmasters comapred to powder coating on the express models.

Based on reviews, many agree that wingmasters cycle more smoothly than express models.

On gunsamerica, there are some bare Rem 1100 or 11-87 semi autos for $235. They need a barrel, forend, and stock. They have bare 870 for $135.

There are plenty of parts for 870, so finding inexpensive barrels/dedicated barrels will not be a problem.
