    Default M&P magazine question

normal for the rounds in the magazine to rattle around? noticed it while carrying the gun tonight. when I pull the magazine out and push down on the round, it stops the rattle, but after a few minutes it starts up again. it's annoying as all hell.

the mags haven't seen THAT much use..maybe 1,000 rounds down the pipe max..between 2 magazines.

I do keep this magazine loaded 24/7 with 17 rounds.

My M&P mags do the same thing. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

While I have the compact, I haven't noticed a rattle. Tho my cheapo mags for my sig do rattle from time to time. I also found out thru some trial and error that my sig p226 mags work well in my m&p compact. So instead of using the factory mags and wearing them out I've been using my cheapo sig mags. They don't lock the slide back on the last shot but feed and function fine otherwise.

There was a thread not long ago that about this. Some had called S&W and they sent them several free Mags. My wife got the free finger extentions for her compact 9mm after she called them. That info was in the same thread.

From my understanding, this is a common problem among some 9mm magazines. The 9mm case is slightly tapered, which can cause a round to become 'lose' and rattle when a certain number of rounds are loaded.

My RAMI mags sound like a baby's rattle when fully loaded, but if downloaded one, they're silent. I haven't had any reliability issues with it. But it is a little annoying.

Try hitting the rear of the magazine against your palm to 'set' all the rounds rearward. That should stop the rattle most of the time.

I do not believe this is limited to just M&P mags, as jokusfocus pointed out. A couple times, my Sig mags do this to me, as well as my friend's HK mags. They are both factory mags, and they only happen every now and then, but yes, it is annoying. Ultimately, I doubt any of us would notice during carry/usage though, lol.

I've never noticed this with my M&P9FS and I carry it everyday all day, loaded to capacity. I'll have to check.

I have a similar problem, but its not really a rattling noise. More of a single click.

With my M&P mags, it seems like the spring is making a clicking sound, and possibly not the rounds. I noticed it with the spare mags in the mag pouch when running. I can also hear it when im holding a mag in my hand and tilt it forward and back.

The mags are from S&W, but I do not keep them fully loaded, usually 12 or 15.

None of mine do this. I have around a dozen mags, all fs 9mm.
