Default Carrying a revolver or pistol during muzzleloader?

Anyone know if there is a restriction on carrying concealed during muzzleloader?

I carry one of my Ruger Vaqueros during regular deer season. I have both the sportsmans permit and a LTCF but I'm curious if there might be a restriction on having a centerfire handgun during muzzleloader.

If so then next year I'll have to get a blackpowder revolver to lug around.

So long as you are carrying a handgun for "personal protection" and with a LTCF - you are legal.

    Why the distinction?
    A revolver IS a pistol.
    Look it up.
A pistol is a firearm designed to be used with one hand.
That could be autoloading/semiautomatic, fully automatic, revolving cylinder, single shot, multi-chamber/ pepperbox, etc....

I don't want to get in an argument with a game officer over my intention in having a handgun.

The Vaqueros are nice but arguably not a common concealed carry piece especially for someone slight like myself.

I don't worry about carrying one of them during regular season because if I chose to try a close deer with one it would be no problem, unlike trying a semiauto pistol would be.

I suppose if I got a blackpowder revolver it would solve any issue as I could hunt with it as well if I wanted. Not sure if a .44 BP load in a handgun would be enough for a deer though.

It wont matter whether its an auto or revolver.. if you have a LTCF, you can carry any suitable pistol for personal protection. However you are completely limited in only using it for protection. You may not take game with it unless it is a 50cal muzzleloading pistol.

Actually the word "pistol" is used to refer to semi-automatic handguns.

A revolver is another type of handgun, and is refered to as a revolver, not a pistol.

Used as a slang term, pistol might mean any handgun.

    From Wikipedia;

The word "pistol" is often synonymous with the word "handgun". Some handgun experts make a technical distinction that views pistols as a subset of handguns. In American usage, the term "pistol" refers to a handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel, making pistols distinct from the other main type of handgun, the revolver, which has a revolving cylinder containing multiple chambers. However, Commonwealth usage makes no distinction at a technical level—"pistol" may refer to revolvers, semi-automatics, or muzzle-loading/cap-&-ball handguns.

The problem or issue with the PGC's description is the type of handgun "normally associated with carrying under a LTC". To many people this means a semi-auto pistol or maybe a sub 4" revolver. However, many people carry a 6" 686 in a crossdraw holster. Who's to say that is not a "normal" handgun for LTC??

No restriction anymore. If you have a LTCF you can carry any gun that the permit allows, basically a handgun. Go for it!

If you should run into one of the rare uninformed WCO’s tell him/her to turn to page 7 of the ’07 digest.

Agreed. If it were me, i'd probably take that page out of the digest and keep it in my pocket just in case.

Edited my post to add the appropriate sarcasm face. Left a space for it, but forgot it. It has the right tone now.
