Default New to the shooting community

    Hello,

I'm pretty new to the shooting community in Pittsburgh, originally from Kentucky there were always an abundance of locations to shoot, and now I'm in the city I need to find a nice spot to shoot. I'm in the Carrick/South Hills area, aside from Anthony Arms, are there any indoor/outdoor ranges I can bring my pistol and rifle to? I'm all for joining a membership if there is something close/cheap enough for me to get into.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Hello and welcome! I'm new myself, but I have done some research on Pittsburgh area ranges. I can't speak to their merits but you can search here on the forum to see what people have said.

There is the Wexford State Game Lands (Wexford SGL) where you can shoot for free, but from what I have read you may encounter people who aren't exactly focused on safety.

The most popular place appears to be the Pitcairn-Monroeville Sportsmens Club (PMSC).

Welcome to the area. Anthony Arms becomes very expensive to shoot at; you must buy their ammo and range time. I don't think you can shoot rifle calibers there either.

There are a few different clubs in the area. I think there is a data base in the "Where to spend money - ranges" forum.

    I'm a member of PMSC http://www.pmsconline.com/
$60 bucks a year, indoor/outdoor pistol range, 50 - 300 yard rifle range, 19 IPSC/private bays, trap, skeet, sporting clays, all sorts of archery, and woods to hunt in if you like.

You can find pretty much any shooting sport you want there with very few restrictions.

When I get back to work I plan on joining PMSC. But for now with all my free time I shoot at the Wexford SGL. M-F is pretty reliable as far as firearm safety standards. The weekends are another story. I went recently with a friend on a Saturday and by abut noon a bad element started to show up.

Awesome everyone, thanks for your insight, Clairton looks to be the closest. Can't wait to check it out. Also the PAFOA West Group Shoot looks like a lot of fun, if I can wake up on time I hope to see some of you out there.

    Thanks again!
