Stroudsburg Area School District passed a budget for next year on Saturday morning with a six to three vote. The 8 a.m. meeting adjourned around 11:15 a.m. according to John Toleno, superintendent.

"The board ended up adopting a budget that represents a total expenditure of $92.1 million," said Toleno. "It represents 10.64 mills, or 7.3 percent increase."

Of that increase, 4.88 percent is an operational increase, and 5.76 is for debt for the renovation of the high school.

"That operational increase represents a 1.9 percent increase from last year," Toleno said. "Some of the cuts being made include a couple of directors not being hired, a couple of special education positions, new buses, all field trips, fund balance, technology budget, contingency budget and library books."

Board members Rachel Cardelle, Richard Pierce and William White voted no, with the other six members voting in favor of the budget.
For most of you Mounties it will be between 100 - 200 a year more

What stinks about that is that schools have to have their final budget submitted to the state by a certain date yet I don`t think the state has passed their budget yet. How does a school pass a budget when they aren`t even sure of the amount of state funding?
If state funding comes in higher then expected will they redo their budget or treat the money like a windfall and blow it?

Because of growth the state allows most Pocono schools to increase taxes above the inflation rate without a referendum vote which I think is wrong on all levels.

There were some article recently in the Pocono Wretched that listed how many millions the school districts will receive for the next school year, IIRC Stroudsburg gets hit the hardest. For the most part it will be less than previous years so they have to make cuts and figure on higher taxes.

    Here is one article...

No state budget as of yet but schools must submit their budget by 6/31. Doesn`t make sense to me.
