Here's my 2 cents in no particular order:

Stay away from the 50 mm scopes. They're heavier, more $, screw up the 'balance' or 'feel' of the rifle and don't have any real advantage unless your hunting at night.

Assuming you will be hunting deer at reasonable Pa. ranges, you should consider a fixed power scope, either 4X or 6X. I have a 6X Leupold on a 270 that I use for groundhogs and deer. I take shots to 300 yds and have never felt the need for more power. Compared to a variable, fixed scopes are lighter, and simpler (less internals to break). Plus there is no way you will have it turned up to 9X or more when a deer steps out at 10 yards.

The various BDC type reticles are all the rage (again, there was a craze 30 years ago too) but if you sight in your 30-06 properly, you can hold center of chest to 300 yards and not worry about being high or low, you will hit a lethal area.

Oh yea, I own Bushnell, Nikon, Weaver, and Leupold scopes, all have been satisfactory. I often buy online from Bear Basin Outfitters.

    FWIW,

    Dale

So I would like some suggestions for an inexpensive scope. I dont have any specific plans for this rifle. As of right now it has no sights, so I just want it to be functional. Id like to stay under $100

This is one of the options I am looking at. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/c....aspx?a=642965

    This looks pretty good to.

I have a membership, so I get the member price. I also have a $10 off coupon for SG, so if there is something else listed on their site that is a good choice, Im all ears.

    thanks.
I looked at the page & for the money take a look at the Bushnell product line. They do make a great scope for the money. Bushnell are the maker's of EoTech. They make'm & put the Eotech's name on them. And like I sad earlier in that price range Bushnell is your best option IMO
